How large should a brick ring planter be under a dwarf Montmorancy cherry tree? Is a 3 foot inside diameter large enough? Is 2 feet tall OK?
The tree is on the way and I want to build a circular brick planter that will accommodate the tree and put some flowers around the tree in the planter. The tree is supposed to not grow any more than 8 to 10 feet tall.
Do I need to line the inside "wall" of the "planter" with plastic or weed fabric to keep tree roots from displacing the bricks? I know there is no "bottom" to the "planter," as this is where the roots need to be able to grow to/through.
Should I put tree wrap on the tree, and how far up and down the trunk?
Are there any flowes I should avoid?
I was told by someone at a nursery or garden section to not dig a hole to plant the tree bec ause it would be planed too deep. Rather, remove the sod, build the planter (walls only), add dirt so the tree is not planted deeper than it's planter, plant the tree, finish adding the dirt, then plant the flowers.
Thank you.
