Lady Banks Rose root system

Sulphur, LA

I have a Lady Banks Rose bush that I want to plant about 10 feet from our house and only a few feet from our septic tank drain pipe, which is PVC. I'm wondering if these roots are very extensive or thick and would pose a risk to the foundation or PVC pipe. Any information about this would be greatly appreciated. I have found very little information online.

Thanks,

I checked with my Parish Cooperative extension agent when i planted my banksia as it is within 20 feet of the septic tank and banksias can have up to a 20 foot spread. He said it should pose no problem as the anchoring roots, which are the largest go deeper rather than wider. The other roots are fibrous feeder roots and spread out closer to the surface than the anchoring roots. He said if any should get that far, they would likely travel along the pipes, taking the path of least resistance rather than forcing their way through an object. He used a container as an example...saying the roots coil in the container and spread out through drainage holes rather than pushing through the plastic container.

Thanks so much. I figured you would know the answer. You are awesome!

That's exactly what I needed to know. I didn't even know about this Parish Cooperative Extension thing. I almost just called you but decided I give the public forum a try.

Thanks! We'll get together soon.
