What kind of soil and pH does Rose of Sharon like?

Can I plant a Rose of Sharon in a pot? Can a Rose of Sharon be pruned so it stays fairly small?

They do well in good compost-y garden soil that is quick draining....average to slightly acidic pH and can be grown in containers. Hope this helps.
