Creeping Fig assistance needed.

Edmonton, Canada

Hi all.

I have a creeping fig that I have allowed to climb the walls and ceiling. It started about three years ago, and last Spring I had to transplant it into a bigger pot because it was totally root-bound. Now it is totally root-bound again and it is starting to lose leaves that have turned yellow/brown, plus I can't keep it watered enough. I don't want to have to put it into a bigger pot every year, but I was thinking about doing some root-pruning instead whenever it became root-bound. Does anyone have any experience with root pruning? I am afraid of killing this beautiful plant, not to mention I will have to sand and paint the wall and ceiling if it dies!

Any advice is appreciated, and thanks in advance!

and you can read more about root pruning here:

If you have questions, I should be able to answer them.

I don't want to be a killjoy, but if you don't pull that down and fix what it's already done your walls now, that plant is going to totally destroy your house. And it'll be a helluvalot more expensive than that plant is worth...

I agree with Plants4myPots. This plant can ruin stucco, concrete, etc. The older the plant gets, the larger the leaves and more vigorous it gets. The pot its in is quite small for the size of plant. I had this plant on the side of the house and it would grow up the side of the cedar siding each year and die from winter to the ground. Each year the leaves got a bit bigger and became more vigorous. It was finally dug out as the marks on the wood were causing problems.
