Sick looking Mexican Petunia Leaves

North Port, FL(Zone 9b)

Can anyone identify what's doing this to my Mexican Petunia leaves? The leaves start out fine then get this faded/mottled look to them but stay perky. They aren't flowering much but it's still early. Thanks

I've go the same problem on some asters, slavias, and tomatos. I think it may be mites. I've used soapy water on the asters and salias and it seems to help. But you may have to treat them several times. I take a bucket of soapy water and a sponge and I gently press the leaves between my hand and ythe sponge. This gets the soap on the back and front. Some plants don't like soapy water, like geraniums. But I thin it would be OK on the Mexican petunias because they have slick leaves. Might try and see.

I get a pest called the azalea lace bug that does similar damage to my azaleas. It has also attacked my Honeycomb butterfly bush and a number of other plants I have. Look on the underside of the leaves for tiny silver and black specks. If you see any white/silver specks it could be the bug. The black specks are their droppings. Soapy water and moving the plants to shady areas will help some. The bugs prefer it really warm and bright light. There usually is no sigh of the bugs on top of the leaves other than the bleached looking leaves.

Sorry for the delay. The plants seemed to outgrow the problem after May. I've had nice healthy plants all summer & they're still going strong. Thanks for the suggestions.
I'll try them if I run into a problem next spring.

Mine would get that 'bleached' look on their leaves too. I think it mostly has to do with temperatures and how often they may be getting water. I think they may love having the sun shine on them alot with warm temps, and get a watering twice a week during the hot months.
