Does anyone know if cats will stay away from poisonous plant

I have a nicotina and I would like to keep it in the house, but I have 2 cats that like to eat plants. I wanted to know if anyone knew if they would be smart enough to stay away from it?

I put them in front of it to see what they would do and they just smelt it and walked away so I think it might be okay, but don't want to wake up to dead cats in the morning. I am going to put it back out in the gh until I get an answer.
