Adel, you have a great variety of birds. Still cold here, 23 degrees this morning. The orchard Frost fans started shortly after midnight and are still running at 7:15am. My regulars, quail, goldfinches, house finches and hosp. are here every morning.

Very nice photos everyone. Thanks

Donna

Lily, hope that you'll have little Mallards waddling around soon!

Adel, cute photos of your cowbird and sparrows. I'm still waiting for the Stellar Jays to arrive.

Donna, glad your little birds are keeping you entertained.

I finally got my first photo of a female Purple Finch.

FYI, Mallards already has their first brood down South. It was a nerve-raking experience, but I saw the first brood yesterday. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1174128/

I revisited the pine tree that houses roughly dozen of Great Blue Herons' nests. Can you see many GBHs as I can?

Lily, I enjoyed your story on the Mallards, thanks. Congratulations on the new lifer-he's a beautiful bird. Great shot of the rookery. I get to see ours next week at our Heron Festival.

Adel, you have a deal!

Lakeview, OH

Went out again this morning to see what I could get a picture of, and it was raining so no luck, I heard the pileated again, but of course could not find him. I am trying to be patient, I went on this one web page and this lady said she tried for two years to get a shot of him, and she was in her back yard and heard him pecking behind her and finally got a shot. Two years, I don't know if I have enough patience for that! Patience has not been one of my virutes! I will keep trying for now, I will go out tomorrow and see what I can see and hear, any tips or suggestions would be helpful.

Marlton, NJ

Wonderful shots duc! Love the Bushtit and Hooded Oriole.

Beautiful Lily!

Lakeview, OH

I have made a decision, I am not going to look for him anymore until I hear him pounding on a tree trunk, or hear his laugh. I just went out and went to two trees where I was sure he was, and of course it got darker and I couldn't see that good, so he could have been above me and I would not have been able to see him. Maybe when it gets warmer and the days are longer I can look somemore. Mean while the Downies, and the Red bellied woodpeckers provide excellent photo opportunties. Here is Mama scoping out her domain on our Cottonwood tree, they seem to be on that tree quite a bit.

One of the Pileateds flew past me again today, but way too fast for a shot. They can really be challenging to photograph. This shot is a ways off, but I was watching this Osprey and Eagle playfully flying around together. Not the first time I have seen this combination having fun.

Yes, the Tanager was here for a brief visit then it was gone. :((

Gp, that's nice to watch the two raptors playfully at each other. Cool pix.

All those Herons, that must of been some sight!!! Congrats on your new lifer, Kim.
Duc, love your yellow birds, so bright, just what I needed. ;) Glad to see the Purple finch. Mine are still a no show, I always have my nose in the window, looking for them.
GP, I never knew Ospreys and Eagles played together!

Burn, as a southerner, it is difficult to imagine snow on the ground in April. Last Sunday was a beautiful day here (sending spring thoughts your way), and I spotted a new lifer for me, a Northern Parula. Very distinctive call, which I had heard for a number of days, but couldn't figure out who owned it. Here he is, belting it out.

I thought I had a second lifer, which turned out to be an American Goldfinch! I've never seen one in breeding colors.

Perhaps he and the Mrs. will stay. It is a little south of their summer territory.

I also spotted an Indigo Bunting Sunday. I was a happy birder that day.

It's hard to think of our friends up North with snow this time of year. It feels like summer is already here during the days! Burn, we don't have your winter, but we do not have the priviledge of your Redpolls either. Gg, congrats on your 'lifer' N. Parula. He's sweet! And the Bunting. I'd be very excited if I ever get a Bunting down here.

We had a break between storms yesterday afternoon so took a walk & went looking to see what I could find out and about.

First, at home a Cardinal and a House Finch

I could hear lots of birds but was not really seeing much that I was able to get a decent photo of. This White-throated Sparrow was the exception!

So heading back to the house I saw a very familiar guy....Pileated Woodpecker.
