Plant Propagation part XXXIV based on my own experience

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Good afternoon:
Katie I am glad you had someone who has seen the pre garden and can see the difference. sometimes we forget just how much we put into the outside. and what we have done to manage to be where we are. Sorry to hear about the pain as i know how bad and diabling it can be.

I had my helper over yesterday, she is like 2 years post back surgery. I think it helpes her to be able to chat with me and have some one with insite on what she has gone through and will be dealing with in the future. She said she felt like she was being followed by the workers comp people and I told he she most likely was being followed and all the little strange occurances her husband thinks are just her parinoid feelings coming to the top. I told her to have her attorney to request a copy of any and all survelance so she can confirm her suspicions and feel a bit better and that she was not going nuts. Its amazing what people will do for money.

spent yesterday cleaning up the togo pile of plants. ok not a pile a group. she (my helper) is starting a small nursery at her home on 5 acres a little bit outside a suburb of tulsa. I am giving her guidance and will help them get going. it will give me an outlet to sell to as well.
I feel no one nursery can grow everything. You will drive yourself nuts trying to do so. I know this first hand as one of the nurseries I worked would do just that. someone would call asking if we had a specific plant, and if we did not we would start growing it based on one request. can you imagine a nursery that grows every genus and species of plants?

well grandbabies will be here tomorrow so I best get moving on my chorse so I will be ready for them. Lots of laundry to get folded and hung up. Have a great day

Anyone have advice on pumkins? I kept a couple from the Halloween decorations and planted them this spring, to which there is robust success- but not sure what will help them grow pumpkins. They are blooming a lot right now.

mulege, Mexico

I think they set fruit when they're ready. You can polllinate them yourself by applying a male flower to a female, as with gourds, I think. I recall they are heavy feeders - sound like yours are doing fine.

Am finally getting some sleep - just worke up from a three hour nap. Back to bed. I'm following the doctor's orders to take it easy for awhile. Not much choice between being tired, having a cold and foot pain. However, I'm on the mend. Cough.

LOL, bees rj. As Katie says, you can do it yourself. I do that with my tomatoes. I stick my finger in all the blossoms. Try your elbow on the pumpkins. chuckle.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

I never try to polinate anything. sounds kinky.

Katie take care of yourself. Please relax woman.

Guys we should just open a thread same as this on CBTZ (code), because we can have a room for just us or others too if you like and we can talk smack and all you cussers won't get kicked off. If you did, we could all meet at the other place. lol we would already be there. I don't like it either but it would have it's benefit on a thread or two.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Well another day in paradise. Landscapers were here today and had my gray hair put back to blond.

I had so many things that different homes wanted me to show the landscapers, it took most of the afternoon. Then they were allowed to go home an hour early because of Cinco de Mayo. They had worked 1/2 hour overtime two days in a row. By that time I was over heated because it was cloudless and 92 degrees. I came inside and gulped three glasses of ice water and sat on the couch. So I know I will get nothing ready for mailing until Saturday. At least I will have my worker. But I am going to get the labels and boxes ready. The last boxes I sent took me forever because the majority of the time I was looking for something. Scissors, tape, addresses, pen or whatever. I was spinning my wheels.

Katie, you should be getting better. They shoot horses don't they?

Dawn, we are doing fine not cursing. We all understand each other and do not need to verbalize. And you can spell out Cubits, Admin. will not stone you.

Where is Linda?

Dave, I dislike companies that try to prove someone is collecting disability illegally. Occasionally you catch someone in fraud but in the meantime they spook a whole bunch of innocent individuals.

Dave, so glad you found a helper.

I had a California poppy bloom, today and it is just about White. It is a very very pale yellow. It had some seeds so I picked them. They are usually a bright orange. Dawn I could include a couple seed pods of it if you do not have any that color.

Our son Brian has been asleep all day so, so far Vern is calm. He just woke up and Vern is getting his dinner together. He leaves here about 9:30 to go to work.

I have a nail appointment tomorrow. All these PT and beauty appointments are screwing up my schedule.

All of you be safe, more energy, less pain and HAPPY. Sharon.

I am so glad to see you guys are warming up. We are going back to the mid 70s the first part of the week with forecast of showers and wind.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh....geez, the last thing I expected...my friends bought me a retirement present for Continental. Was surprised today with the airline seats. Left to right, my friends Steve, Phillip...and ...Brian my partner not allowed to be married.shhhhhh! thing.

You missed the boat in California I gather. It sailed briefly but it will return one day for an extended tour here at least. Great gift.

Sharon I had some friends, no longer here for talking about the other site and trying to get people to go on it.

Anyways I was kidding, but there are taboo subjects here that someone may want to talk about...It does not matter, just an idea anyways.

I would like a poppy that turns almost white. Odd.

It is 10:05 at night and gosh dang it is 72 degrees out right now. Hot cold...I tell you it is making me nuts. Poor plants don't know what to do. My roses are budding and most of my flowers however they are a month behind other people's that already bloomed in housing tracks. My area is exposed to high winds, with all the alfala fields just west of my house for miles. Maybe that is why they are behind.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Hey Rjudd, my friends Wolf and John got married in Canada. They were together 35 years before they got married.

My peonies are blooming.

Good night. SKW.

mulege, Mexico

I drank lots of hot lemondae, made from my own lemons, last night. Cold was gone enough and foot pain almost nonexistent and I was able to sleep long and well. Scout, the visiting dog, is a good cuddler and kept me nice and warm when it got cold in the early am. I am still a little stuffy but definately better. Will continue to take it easy but I don't think you need to shoot me. I could do with some fog removal.

Weather is still beautiful here. Heating up during the day but not too bad.

Have a great day everyone.

hugs, katie

Howdy:
RJ: Is your living room decorated with airline seats??? I can see it now 2 sets of first class seats and the middle row of seats. Drink trollies as end tables....sorry just could not resist.

Katie I am glad you are getting better.

well I have to fly as I am having grand babies this weekend and I still have to get a few things done.
So if I am absent please forgive me. i will try to get a new thread opened today.
Dave

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

rj, are you retiring? Really? How many years do you have with Continental? Do you get your perks to fly cheap, and how about the shipping thru FedEx? Do you get all that stuff?

What are you going to do, just travel? Are your folks still in the Seattle area? You must get a good retirement to pay for that house you bought not long ago. Most people your age couldn't afford to retire. LOL, I know, I don't know how old you are. But, unless you posted a phony picture, you don't look old enough.

Maybe you could smuggle us some plants back from the tropics. I won't tell, really. If they're good ones.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Hi to all,

Just a quick hello and Happy Mother's Day to all.

Jen, You had ask me what I was putting in my big pots and planters. Now I can tell you. They are all planted. In the four long ( five and six feet) and the six 18" (?) pots, I planted:
Licorice Plant (Helichrysum) (sp) silver an green
Angelonia (summer snapdragon) lavender
Crossandra - Orange Marmalade
Almost 100 plants and they are all in and watered and ready for the next frost...........just kidding, but we got close to it last night. It was down to 39 deg. and I had the plants all in the truck in the barn closed up tight and they were snug as a bug in the rug all night. lol
Today it was up in the 60s and tomorrow is to be warmer but breezy again.

Have not been feeling to well, allergies keeping me awake and my daughter made me to to the doctor today to be sure there is no pneumonia or bronchitis. There was not, I just need something to stop the dry cough and get more sleep. Dr. gave me a script for cough, which I do not intend to take and told me to take Claritin. Will do. I am fine. Just tired. Too much grass mowing and wind blowing.

Theresa helped me plant today so that went fast. I placed all the pots where I wanted them and she did the planting on most of them. I helped plant until the sciatic nerve started to get crazy and then she made me stop. These people who tell me what to do make me sick. I did agree she was right this time. Theresa is a young woman who has horticulture background and helps me when I need her. Also, she works for one of the Wineries doing their floral decorations for the tables, and other odd jobs including their landscaping (with a crew of Mexicans). She is a real trip.

We are putting down mulch but we need so much I am not sure we will get it done by the weekend.

My son and his family are coming from PA on Sunday Morning for breakfast. Then they must get back before dinner time. So they will miss the Lobster and Steak dinner at 4:30. Too bad for them.

That is about it. I must get busy and find something for dinner. I need to rest and play some games on the puter. Have a good evening. JB

That is so nice that you have help with your planting JB. Especially when you have problems such as allergies an sciatica. What a pain. Literally.

Happy mom's day to all of you too.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Well Vern's doctor's appointment with the cardiologist went great. He said his heart is in good shape. He has gained two pounds and his BP was 133/70.

Temperature was 95 today and later this afternoon the wind started. My worker will be here tomorrow. I will get the rest of the boxes done and mailed and get the mess in the garage cleaned up.

Suppose to be windy on Sunday and 72 degrees on Monday. Just love spring in the desert.

Going to church Sunday with Tracy and her family and then she is having us over for dinner.

Katie, I think I scared you well. LOL.

JB, my mother had a dry cough and it was caused by a new medication. Have they changed any of your medication? I hope you have a great Sunday with your family.

Dave, enjoy your grandchildren.

Happy Mother's Day Everyone. Sharon.

I took the shipping tape back to Costco today because I could not get it to stick. They told me they had had a big problem with one shipment. The tape problem really slowed me down so that is one problem gone. I opened the package and made sure the tape was good before I left the store.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Happy Birthday girls and Daves wife.

Glad you are coming around Katie.

Our weather is pretty hot this week. I always loose seedlings in this crap weather, when it comes so fast from cold.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Good Morning campers:
well its time to box everything up, please make sure you have everything you need as we most likely wont come back so if you leave it behind it will stay here.
Please check in.
Dave

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

???????????????????????????????????
Dawn checking in.

I am so mad, I put a hyacnth bean out in an area where it will get more light. My dog must have wanted to play with the cup because it is gone, nowhere to be found and the plant with it.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Well Dawn. Just about every thing coming your way is dug and in my garage in thrive induced water.

I also got my coleus planted.

My worker was working in the courtyard all day. I have many 42'' x36" pots made out of fiberglass. I have one right by the area near the front door. I ask him to check it for roots because I could not keep it wet. Not even damp. I went back into garage area and planting. He came and got me. He could not remove the planter because it was tied down by roots that had gone through the holes in the bottom. I think it was Laurel Tree (Bay Leaf) roots. When I came back about 45 minutes later, he was still trying to get the pot loose. When I planted this Laurel tree it was about 8" tall and smaller than a pencil. Now it is over the second story roof. The roots go under the courtyard patio, into this flower bed and then under another slate area into another flower bed.

I also ask him to see why another area was so dry closer to the gate into the courtyard. Again, roots. All 8 hours he was spend removing roots and cleaning up. I cannot imagine I used to do this.

Next week is a good week. PT on Monday and then nothing the rest of the week. My therapist is going to a conference in Canada. So I can garden all the rest of the week. That will make it easy to get the boxes out of here.

I have very little left to plant and have promised myself "No New Plants" until the boxes are out of here.

We are suppose to have 45mph gusts tomorrow so there goes all the rose petals. But after Japan and the South Tornadoes and now flooding, I am never going to complain about the wind or anything else weather related ever.

You all have a wonderful Sunday. For you Mothers, have a great Mother's Day. I am jammed up tomorrow so will probably be absent until late. Sharon.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Happy M.D. to you Sharon. Thanks too btw. I am very greatful. I will have them in time to establish before the bad heat or will put more fragile ones in my holding area, but need more water systems possibly.

Have a great day. Rest.

Sierra Foothills, CA(Zone 8a)

Sharon ~ Thanks so much for the lovely surprise(s)! Wow!

I am tired so I will be brief,

Happy Mother's Day to all that applies. And "Happy Sunday" to the rest.

TTYL,

Evelyn

Somehow I got the idea Dave was trying to tell us he was moving us to a new thread. But nobody move. Dave? You have to be more specific if that is what you meant.

Happy M.D. you all.

Jeanette

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

He did move us, he just did not post a forward. Check out Propagation. You will see the new thread. Lee found it. The rest of you are asleep or drinking with JB. Actually I am having a vodka on the rocks with two olives . I will be hitting the bed real soon. Hopefully I will hit the pillow and not the headboard. When we are together in person I will have to tell you all the story when Vern and I were young and went to a drive-in movie in Pittsburgh with a bottle of Jack Daniels. State stores and you could only buy alcohol at State stores on certain days and hours. I do not know why we are alive and I can guarantee you the babysitter is still talking about us after 30 years. But I enjoyed the drink.

Brian's bathrooms are suppose to be completed by the end of the day Monday. Just bought him a car and now the bathrooms. His sister is having a problem. I told her to get a life and walk a mile in his shoes. She is still working on a tummy tuck. We paid for her $70,000 of college. Both Bachelor and Master degree. That is why she makes high 5 figure salary.
I just grit my teeth but it is a good thing she cannot read my mind.

We are good and I am going to bed. My "old" body is tired. And the dogs did not get their long walk today. Sharon.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Guess I will have to go find it. LOL, I kind of half assed looked last night, but nothing serious. So, his sister is coming for mother's day today Sharon? BTW how many bathrooms does Brian have? That you are remodeling.

It is a typically rainy day here. Just nasty. Guess I will go down this morning and see if I ran any of the ants out of the hoophouse. Someone on the other forum said they hate mint. So, I found peppermint and put that in there and I think they loved it. So then I found some Ortho ant killer and put it on just the outside of the bales. Hope that is ok and won't matter to the tomatoes when I plant them.nbvc

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)
