JB don't you know you don't have to go anywhere to get Whine. we give it away for free....
did they think about building a burn pile there on the farm??? It would save some gas $$$$
I too had issues getting on. I emailed admin and it was fixed shortly after that. I am so sure it was my email that made them get it fixed..... well thats my story and I am stickin to it....
sorry jb but more rain coming to you. we had it all day yeaterday and I thought I had a break to get out and split up my ginger... but nnnnnooooooo I was ran (is it ran or run?) back inside and had to finish it at the sink.
Plant Propagation part XXXIV based on my own experience
I got that a couple of times this spring. Mail order is a whole different animal. especially when it comes to orders and getting paid for it. Some times I wonder if its really worth it...sometimes....
Why should we buy our own burn permit for a hundred plus when we can burn free at this one. I don't think so. We do not burn that often. Burn permits in NJ are like diamonds in most places.
Gave all the plants in the GH Fish Emulsion and does that stink. Oh God.
I worked in the Iris garden about an hour and gave up because it is now almost 80 deg. and the sun is really hot, I was afraid to push my luck. I loved doing it but I thought better of it. I came in showered , ate lunch about 3 p.m. and got the paperwork done for tomorrows shipments.
Now it is after 4 and I am about to call it a day. I still have one more walk to take. I am not loosing any weight, I swear this new heart medication bloats me. I feel like an overstuffed bear. I feel fat. All the exercise I get, and I do not eat like a hog everyday, I still do not loose any weight. WWAAAAAAA
See you all tomorrow. JB
JB, you and Lee seem to have the same problem. I heard that the older you get the harder it is to lose weight.
Oh well, guess I will start working on getting younger. Might be easier than losing weight.
I see by my thermometer it is 61 in the hoophouse. I wanted Bob to help me put an end on the North end but he doesn't look like he is going to. I think it would keep it warmer at night and I might be able to put some of the plants out there if it did. It was 27 the other morning so not too sure if I would get it that warmer or not.
Guess I will go in and pack some boxes. The dog is out barking at a Whitetail doe. I think I will miss the wildlife around here. I know, there are deer everywhere. I heard you all.
Well JB--sounds like the ol'age is catching up with us, weight loss is tough. I have lost a couple lbs, but long way to go,.
It was a beautiful day today, so I spent my birthday working in the yard, Set 10 bags of mulch, but need more. the old body quit on me,. Can't put plants out, still too chilly and more rain and snow is forcast. Oh well, gives me time to get more seeds started, I hope. with better results., ttyal, Lee
Lee!! Happy birthday! LOL, if you are like me you don't want to hear that again.
And yet, the alternative isn't very nice is it? I didn't mean just you and JB are old enough to have trouble losing weight. No, I'm with you and as I said, it might be easier to get younger. Figure that one out.
At least you got out and worked in the yard. I should have told you it was coming. I did that yesterday. It was really nice over here. They kept predicting rain and it finally showed up about 6 o'clock tonight.
Hope you went to dinner or something tonight and had a good one.
Working in the yard not under feet of snow is a birthday present from God ha? Happy Birthday girl, just repeat, "ARE WE THERE YET?"
Happy birthday Lee
JB I did not really think about it here we just pull out the hose, marshmellows and a long stick squirt a little girl scout fire juice and light the match. well ok we have to be out of town but its not that big a deal here. But of course we get wild fires a lot too so it does have a down side.
Dave
Thank you everyone, it was really nice to be outside. wish I could plant flowers but I will resist, knowing they would just die anyway, freezing. Maybe the worst is gone. No--no dinner out, just can't quite trust myself yet, too many temptations, Thanks again, Lee
Good morning everyone:
well the monsoon has stoped for the moment we are suposed to get more tonight and tomorrow. but the rest of the week looks good.
everything is squishy. I turned off the water for the next couple of days because it will take a bit for them to dry out. of course the greenhouse is its own system.
Packing 2 out bound orders. I will have a bunch next week and the week after that and then its buckle down for the season. I am thinking it will have been a good season as I managed to get a lot of new material in and I still have some stuff left to sell.
stay dry
Dave
Hi Gang:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LEE............BETTER LATE THAN NEVER I ALWAYS SAY.
Weight Loss is a problem during aging because our metabolism slows down and then add the arthritis, it makes a miserable combination when you are trying to keep the weight off. Exercise is so difficult now.
I am no longer able to exercise the way I once did and there is nothing on the market for exercise for people over 80 except chair exercise, and that bores me to tears. Besides, that just keeps your muscles and bones moving and hell I do that all day. Mostly for people in assisted living, etc. I used to teach it to aging in the Office of Aging Centers on days when the social workers did not show up. Oh God, how fun was that. LOL. At least it kept their old hearts pumping more than bingo did. All they want to do is sing and play bingo. God, when I get to that I am going to lay down and die I swear.
There is a new computer virus out now and it comes up on the puter as part of the XP Security System and totally locks you out of the internet. Be sure you watch what you o.k. and keep your security updates up to date. It is so new it is being missed by McAfee and Zone Alarm. My daughter got it on her home computer and the tech just left and said he has three other machines at his office with it on and no one seems to have a cure for it. Wow.........I hope I do not get it. So far I am clean. Tomorrow is another day. Hers showed up on Easter Day.
Shipped plants this morning again , made some ham spread for the kids lunch, took care of the birds, took a walk and now I am going to sit at this computer and put plants on eBay. I put up some Jasmine yesterday and had a sale today. Not bad. I have two pending sales on DG.....they buy and never pay. I hate that.
Lee, if summer comes on a Sunday, I would skip church and have a picnic if I were you.
I would never make it out there, that is for sure.
Today it is in the 80s here. You just can not keep up with the change. I actually got sunburn and I do not burn , yesterday. The sun was really very hot. I am not going out in it today. I think the BP med is the one that says stay out of the sun, and I forgot it and spent quite a bit of time in the field yesterday working in the Iris and Peonies. The Peonies look really good this year.
I must get busy. Maybe I will eat lunch first. It is 2 p.m. and I have not had time to eat.Hmmmm. Take it easy . Tornadoes in Nashville up to PA where the winds will be strong. Oh well, nothing we can do. I gave up worrying about it. The sky was nasty looking this morning and the humidity was high, but it passed and now the sun is shining.
Here you can get a nasty sunburn on a cloudy day......seen it happen.
Be safe out there and stay cool. Love and Hugs. JB
Well, Lee, I woke up to 2 inches of snow on the ground this morning. Guess you know what you will have tomorrow. Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but don't plant anything outside today. LOL
Can't stop it so might as well go with the flow.
They just said we have had the coldest April since 1917!! How do you like those apples? (they won't ripen lol)
My sister and I were going to go out and look at houses today. Glad we didn't so we will go tomorrow. Hope we don't get any snow then.
They will probably move our last freeze date up to the end of June instead of May. And then it starts again the end of September. So we will have July and August to enjoy our plants. Isn't that disgusting?
Gloom and doom. Sorry.
You guys should move East................I think.
This is to let you all know that I have arrived safely in chula Vista. Trip was tiring but uneventful until I got to TJ where they have again moved the route to San Diego without marking it. I have to learn the Tecate route. It was about two hours in line once I got to it. Dang.
I'm hot and tired and worried because I don't know whether tomorrow will help or just be the beginning of a hurry up and wait or come back in six months if you''re still in pain.
I'm very tired and need to rest. Which I will.
Love you all.
More soon. Meanwhile I'm OK
hugs, katie
Praying for a safe trip back too and a good outcome for your footers.
Do you guys use Irish Spring to keep rabbits out of your garden? All these people on the DL forum are all talking about how it keeps the bunnies at bay.
I'm game.
Glad to hear you made it Katie. good luck with the doctors as they "Practice" on you.
Kim is having a mystery pain in her rib area. sharp shooting pain and all knotted up. I can get it to let go but it just knots back up after a few moments and the pain is non stop. She had an exray(chest) and mri of the back and nothing was found. she has a dr's apointment tomorrow afternoon. Its so frustraighting.
I have been told that works on the bunnies. I was also told that pinesol does wonders on moles and deer they hate the smell. of course this is all from my memory and second hand news so take it as that. but its worth a try. better to send the silly things down the raod instead of killing them and making a Mole skin jacket.
well welcome to another day of as the rain mists softly on the grass... we last found our hero searching for the proper wood to build a boat so that he can float down stream when the creek rises......
All right enough of the silly crap stop the rain..... we have had over 9 inches now that sounds like a good rain but Oklahoma city just 90 min away to the west has had 3.11 and little rock where we go to visit grandbabies is 4 hours to the east and south had 15". all the totals are year to date. its so strange how one part of the state can get so much rain and the other be in a drought. all I know is its going to be an interesting summer.
My irrigation time was on the fritz because of all the water that ended up in it. When i went to drain the thing a brown water poured out of the battery compartment. I now have it opened up-well as much as I can and drying out. yesterday the main sprinkler was pulsing with a strong stream and then it slowed down to a stop then started again. Good thing i have a backup for it.
not much else to share. stay dry and safe Dave
Mostly good news here. I don't need surgery, at least at this time. I have a foot brace I'm to wear when I sleep and other instructions.
I'm going to rest for a couple of days and then head home.
More later, when I'm not so tired.
hugs, katie
That is good news Katie. I do not envy you that trip. I worry the whole time you are in the car. I guess I watch too much news about Mexico and crossing the borders. LOL.
All is well here, hot and humid and I love it, but the poor plants think it is June and everything is coming alive and blooming. By the end of the summer there will be nothing to bloom. The August daffodils are in full bloom. I bought them so I would have some later in the summer. So much for that. LOL
I am just about ready to call it a day. I did all my errands this morning, picked up my new reading glasses and went to the grocery store. Another $100. I can not believe the price of veggies and fruit. Of course Barney's chicken is $4.99 a pound. Gasoline is now only $3 .69 which is good compared to the rest of the East Coast.
Had a chiropractor appt. today and he was pleased I was not as off balance as I usually am. Do not know why I am not, but I am glad. LOL
My daughter got that computer virus, the one that looks like a new security program for windows. It is called XP anti Spyware 2011............and it locks up your computer so you can do nothing. It keeps asking you to buy the program, which is a fraud, and now she is junking this computer because it is old and it would cost hundreds to remove the virus. It is relatively new and there is very little to help you remove it out there. So, I sure hope I do not get it. Of course, this computer she has is not as well protected as mine is. It is the one her husband plays poker on and he is now having withdrawals....his one vice is playing poker.....not using his money....just a free game,.....but he relaxes by playing every night. He is so funny. I offered him my laptop but he is afraid he will mess it up. LOL I would have to kill him if he did and he knows that.
Time to call it a day. Take care and stay safe. JB
Where is Sharon?
Is anyone else having trouble with this site? I posted an hour or so ago I waited and waited and it isn't here. A couple of days ago none of us could get on. What is going on?
Have any of you talked to Terry or Melody?
I found a house today that I wanted but my sister checked it out on the computer and it had a sale on it already. Too bad. I think both Bob and I would have liked it. Not many like that. Oh well.
She told me to go to the credit union and get pre-qualified so I am ready when/if I find something I want. Guess I will do that.
I am just here lurking. The reunion went great and I am just getting back to my normal routine.
I had PT yesterday and my body was absolutely wonderful today. No pain anywhere. She is also working on my balance and that seems to be working also.
I got my coleus order yesterday and I had to plant in temporary large shallow tubs. Took three tubs. Reason being, we are having 50 mph winds tomorrow evening and Friday. 83 degrees today and absolutely beautiful. So I will probably plant the coleus Monday. My worker will be here Saturday and we are going to clean the KOI pond, straighten up the garage garden area because all plants are planted.
I have many thing to mail and I hope to get that ready by Saturday. My ground is getting warm enough to direct sow some zinnias. I also dead headed some floral baskets at the nursery the other day. They had some very unusual marigolds. I helped myself to some seed pods.
I have to get to bed because I have landscapers tomorrow, and PT. Sharon
Jen, call your realitor and have her put a bid on it. I am seeing many places that were thought to under contract, fall through, financing is not easy to get and although they said it is sold, it may not be. If it is under contract, put in a bid. Just a suggestion.
Will be back later, we are under bad weather watches and there is alot to do here today with the birds, cleaning, mowing grass and waiting to blow away. See you later. JB
Good idea JB. She said this contract was the second one that was written on it as the first one fell thru.
Also, I need to get pre-qualified so I can get a loan to buy a house and then I will have some breathing room to get this house in shape and sold.
Well, gotta get ready to head off to my appointment in Spokane. I hate that. Going down there two days in a row. I'm too old for this.
Hi Everyone!,
I got slammed this week with all kinds of things and I haven't been online much at all. DS did finally get his drivers license, so my life will never be the same again. LOL
"Playing Catchup":
Happy birthday Lee, I am sorry i missed it.
Jnette, the brug food is the mixture from the brug forum that includes beer, ammonia, epsom salt, and a few other things. I will find the link for you.
Evelyn, thanks . My feet are better, The right foot is still giving me a fit, but the xrays show nothing broken. I guess the bone spur is what is causing the ongoing pain.
Katie, glad to hear you don't need surgery. I know what a relief that is.
Sharon, glad you are back and feeling no pain. I think the pt is definitely the way to go.
Dawn, I would love to take the shar pei, but I have a house full and I am too far away to go get him. When DH worked at the animal shelter years ago, I would go have lunch with him and then bring home a dog or 2. We had 17 at one time. I would find homes for them when I could, but I just kept them from being put to sleep. I hated the thought of them being left at the shelter.
Dave, I do have a camellia with your name on it. I am waiting a couple more weeks to let the lantana toughen up so that I can cut and root it for you. All of my varieties have come back out, so I can get cuttings from 4 varieties for you.
Sharon, I will try to mail your oxalis this week. I will let you know when it is on it's way.
I hope everyone in the path of the storms is ok. We are under tornado warnings here today, so I am going to try to catch up with some paper work and jewelry designs.
JB, do ya hate me yet? LOL once you see those cacti bloom, I am going to have to duck. It will definitely be a new obsession for you. I lucked up the other day and found a pink sunrise cactus. It looks more like an easter cactus, but I have to do some research. I also found a string of pearls and some cobweb sempervivum. It blooms pink ( I had no clue it even bloomed) and looks awesome in my navy blue flower boxes on the porch.
Gotta get busy and do some real work. LOL I am putting it off as long as possible today.
Sea ya.
Mornin everyone:
its a slow moving morning. we went to a local garden center last weekend after the herb fest and they had a lot of easter cactus for sale one whole corner was filled to the brim.
Jenette: everyone is correct on getting prequalified. it makes the sellers know you are ready to go. I would put a bid in on any home you like. when we were looking we had contacted our realtor (we selected her from our condo sale). she thought it was interesting that she had not gotten us out to look at houses yet and we put in a bid. They countered and we decided it was not the correct house. we would have had to do to much to get it to our liking. Then we found this house. It had sat empty for like 6 month's but they took our offer and the rest is history.
well today is get everything set for the garage sale. I am hopefull I will sell out of hosta's well at least sell enough to get me a bit of pocket change.
Have a great day
Dave

HI Everyone,
I slept well last night and feel pretty good this morning. For those of you who have foot problems I have some information: the doctor I saw yesterday prescribed a "boot" that I am to wear while I sleep. I wore it last night and there is a difference this morning. What I have is apparently not a bone spur but the other thing that usually causes foot pain. The relief was immediate. If you are having foot pain I urge you to check it out and not wait for months the way I did.
I just went to Goodwill and found just what I was looking for - an aquarium that I can use for my micropropagation experiments. I ordered a kit and am wondering if it will arrive in the next few days. I'd like to leave for home no later than Monday.
Linda, after your foot breaks you should probably check out what you need to do so the tendons don't tighten up. This is a guess - I know almost nothing except that the feet are complicated and problems with them suck.
I am window shopping today. My retirement money gets posted tomorrow and I have a long list.
I miss daffodils. I planted hundreds of them in Michigan. I have a few paperwhites in Mexico but they are not very reliable bloomers. Oh, well, my Temple Godess brug had twelve blooms and more buds on it the day I left.
It is hot here today. After some window shopping I will find some shade and read and relax,
Have a great day, everyone.
hugs, katie

Any one seen any thing about the damage in alabama (I think ) just got back from the pain dr and he is going to help load food and supplies for the town ...body count was 200 and going up...f5 tornado 1/2 mile wide. can't run from those. they are like the finger of god to quote a movie...
Dave, I just spoke to my friend I grew up with in PA who now is visiting her daughter in Cullman, AL and they are safe but the roof came off the school and there is damage all over the area, but her daughter's house is o.k. No electric, just cell phone. They will not have electric for days. It missed them by three blocks. She is there recovering from a broken pelvis. She lives in Nashville and one just missed her house a few weeks ago. It put a tree on the roof of the house across the street. She is one lucky old lady to have them miss her twice in the same month. God loves her.
Have you talked to your family living in AL? I hope everything is o.k. Prayers for all of them.
I have family in Lousiana and florida but my prayers go out to everone there.
I must say I admire Katie's ability to do the traveling etc. that she does also. It must be very self satisfying to be able to do it at her age. I do not know how old she is, but don't think she is much younger than we are. So I think it is wonderful.
I emailed my sister and told her I wanted to write a back up on the house, but she wrote back and said it is a HUD house and they do not take backups. You have to watch for it and if it comes back on the market because the buyer backs out or can't qualify, then you can write an offer.
I went in to the credit union today hoping to get pre-qualified and they were all busy and it didn't appear they would be free any time soon so I left. I will try it again next week. Maybe call for an appointment.
Ibartoo thanks you are so sweet. I knew I liked you.
God bless all of you who are in the fire storm. Dave is it quiet in your neck? I love Storm Chasers and Storm Stories and I know this season is going to be the best/worst ever. I know I will cry and they will be too. Do you guys watch those shows. Storm Chasers is one of my all time favorite shows.
Sharon, glad your reunion went well and that you are feeling better. Hot ha?
I awoke very early this morning feeling as if I had , without intent, possibly hurt a dear friend by making judgmental comments about her on this forum. I therefore, have removed the posts and want to apologize to all of you for my misconduct. I am also removing myself from this forum.
As you get older you say things before thinking sometimes and especially online, you people do not know me personally. You do not know how I live and love my friends. Sometimes it is hard love, which is not always acceptable. I want to thank you for your kindness and caring over the months and I wish you all well. I adore each and every one of you and will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.
I hope you will find it in your hearts to forgive me. JB
JB!! Don't be silly. We all make mistakes and say things that come to mind once in a while. Please don't leave the forum. It would not be the same without you. I don't know about the others, I have not heard anyone say anything about you or anything you have said.
But please reconsider your decision to leave the forum. I am sure the others feel as I do.
Jen
Jen: and everyone I think we all feel the way jen has put it. here is what I wrote to jb in a dmail
JB: Please don't go away. I am sure you said what a lot of of were thinking. we all have to choose our path in life and she has choosen a different one than most people. I picture her life as it was way back in time when we did not have all the creature comforts we have today. I admire her for living the way she does. Not many people would even try to live the way she does. We all are a bit different none of us say you must live this way or that way and we certainly don't judge anyone for the way they choose to live life. I am sure not many people would choose to have half their back yard in production mode like a nursery does but thats what makes me happy and I do it. Its not pretty or nice to look at but its mine and thats all I have to say about my back yard.
I enjoy hearing how she has taken found things and transformed them into usable things for her yard. She is creative, more than I ever hope to be. We all have our opinions and some times we let things fly that we wish we had not done, but its out there and we just hope its taken as constructive admiration and not anyone looking down their nose at someone because they are different.
I am going to post this on the thread as well along with my admiration of how she has carved out her own little slice of heaven.
Please remain on the thread. I look forward to reading what everyone has done and how we all aproach life as we get older and start to fall apart.
Dave
Personally I would love to know how she choose to go to mexico and how she does what she does. I admire her spirit and bravery. Its dangerous to travel in mexico and she does quite regularly (spelling) I am curious how she deals with the thugs (police and gangs) who pull you over and request a toll to cross. Someone once said they would love to hear the whole story. I think she should write a book. I am sure it would be a hit.
Katie i am sorry if this hits a nerve its not ment that way I think we all are in awe as to what you do and enjoy it. I know you are a lot stronger a person than I am.
Huggs Dave
JB ~ We would definitely miss you and your stories of your life and how you live it. Each of us has a slightly different viewpoint on life as well as many stories to tell. We all make errors in judgment, as none of us is perfect here. That is the beauty of this forum as we get to share what we can with each other, on a more or less regular basis, when we get the chance.
All ~ If any of you got a spam email saying it was from me, I did not send it. It sent everything on my hotmail email list, and pretending it was from me. If you want my other email address for any reason, please dmail me, and please do not send any forwards, as that is a common carrier of junk like that. You end up unknowingly perpetrate these ongoing spams to many different places. It is a well-meaning but common thing that happens with forwards. On the other hand, if you would like to send me a personal email, you are more than welcome, at any time.
Evelyn: I agree we will all miss you and your point of view. lets face it you help keep us in check and a base of reality when we need it.
I have been know to forward an email or 2... ok more than that. I used to have a strict no forwards policy and I think I will go back to that as it keeps me from spending so much time on line. Lately I have skipped a lot of forwards knowing they will be cute but I like everyone else don't have the time to read it all or even deal with the new info.
I backed away from face book because it tied up way to much of my time and as one point, I think it was in farmville I thought to my self whats the point of all this????
Please dmail me your other email address as I don't seem to have anything on you.
It just upsets me to know JB wont be here. I understand why but I think I have the right to be upset about it.
JB, if you think you said something that might have offended me I can assure you that you haven't. You are the spice of this thread and I will be upset if you leave, and really upset if it's on my account.
For what it's worth, I'm 70, have been told I look about 60 and am very immature. I think I've told you that I first went to Mexico to take my mother from a nursing home where she was being abused. I was scared, believe me, but he situation was desparate. I am still paying a psychic toll for that but I have regrets.
Because I am in Baja California, not mainland Mexico I think I have fewer problems than I would otherwise. Baja is much more Americanized than the mainland. I'm careful about things like driving at night and parking in questionable areas. Other observations will follow. Ask any questions. If I don't want to answer I'll say so - I don't mind being asked.
Must go off and do some more shopping for my micropropagation supplies.
JB, again, I not only haven't taken offense at anything you've said, (or Dave either) - I can't imagine why you think I would. Do not leave.
hugs, katie
