Figs drop before geting ripe.

Perris, CA(Zone 9b)

I don't know much about figs.
I have a mature fig tree that will not keep figs on it until they ripen.
They fall off before ripening.
I am in zone 9b.

I think the heat gets them.

There are several fig tree in the neighborhood but no one talks about getting figs from them.

I'm afraid I don't know the answer to your question but I have a few other questions about fig trees.

Just got a fig tree and by mistake my shovel knocked off a teaf and stem. Can I propagate a new tree by putting the stem into water and planting it.

I have actually planted the tree in my front yard to promote the idea of fruit/food crops in the home landscape. I'm hoping I didn't do terminal damage to the plant; but also to start a new one from the cutting.

I don't know a lot but I will share what I remember.... I have a fig that was given to me, it doesn't make figs. That's fine because I really don't like figs, I just wanted the tree because it was free, the leaves are interesting. My friend was throwing it out. Sometimes there are baby figs that drop. I found out that in this country, or maybe it's just my state, we need to grow self pollinating figs. Because the figs need to be pollinated by a special insect (tiny gnat) that we don't have or the figs will not develop. There was more about the flower being inside the fruit and the gnat crawling inside to pollinate, but much of that I don't remember any more. So bottom line is the fig I have was mis marked at the nursery when my friend bought it. She wanted it for the figs, so she got rid of it. FWIW, I don't know if this is the problem with yours or not.

Below is the URL for an article on figs that a freind of mine wrote. The write-up is based on Kansas weather but still should be applicable. See the rest of the web site also as he has a lot of info on growing fruit.
