I decided to take on a project this spring after much frustration. I seed in spring and fall and water, water, water and fertilize. Every spring it looks like the photo below. (Bill, do you now understand why I'm always lusting after your grass ^_^) So I decided all the grass and weeds are coming out. I went to my mother's house to get my rototiller. Came home, pulled the cord and the entire engine lifted off the machine. Oh krapola! I spent 8 hours on hands and knees pulling out unwanted grass and stuff. Got about 20 feet done with only 80 or so to go. I have about 20 assorted shrubs waiting to get planted in the new shrub garden. I plan on having this done in two weeks. Any bets??
Garden Projects 2011 #3
Seeing lawn grass disappear always brings a smile to me. Cleaning up today, I saw so much dang grass in my beds. And, of course, it's perfect looking, unlike the crap in my 'lawn'.
So sad about your golden chain tree, Frank. I have one that I'm going to plant along the road this year.
Oh, Weeze, that will be so much nicer than grass and weeds!
Karen
That's gonna look great Weeze
I second that motion!
like victor it is good to see grass go away! i think you're change will look great weeze!
Venu : Your problem might be salt from winter road work.
Great job, Weeze. What did you plant? Patti
Looks super! And will be much easier to care for......
Thanks all! I'm trying to muster up the energy to get out there now. It's cold again today. Jo, I'm sure the salt doesn't help. Patti,in the mulch shot there is a JM, weigela, physocarpus, viburnum, syringa and a duetzia that a momma plant in a different area gifted. I tend to crowd plants, trying not to do that since some of those shrubs get large.
I think most of us tend to crowd plants, Weeze. I always figure they can be moved once they start to fill out. It's gonna look good.
Karen
Looking forward to helping you at FW again :))))))))))))
That will be a nice area for you.
I didnt know weather to post this in Spending Spree or Projects.
I'm pumped. The landscapers are back to redo the woodswalk steps and path.
Great news! Take photos.
Will do.
The contracter is due in an hour to remove the old counter in the vanity as well as the sophit and can lights. This should be interesting.
There is room for 2 trucks however.
Spring projects are exciting.....need to get some done here, but never seem to have the time!
Awesome JO
Huge change and so much safer for you and anyone walking through the garden.
I realized that last summer when I had 10 friends for afternoon cookies and tea. I was affraid someone would try to go down there.
Looks great, Jo!
Jo, that looks fantastic. So nice to have someone else do that work for you.
Karen
hey - i could have done that :)
looks good joann
Looks great Jo....and yes much safer!
I agree, looks great
Wha !!!! if you lived nearby we could colaborate on many things.
I know this is geezer talk but I really used to work like that.Pottery business isnt for sissies
:)
I bought 6 bags of topsoil to fill in the holes my stupid dog dug in the shade garden.....not enough! Plus I need more fencing to keep him out, so I'm off to Lowe's.
had off yesterday - finished expanding one large bed in front of the house and replanted everything in it and filled it with conifers and a yellow tree peony i got last fall - good timing with this rain today. picture later.
Still cleaning up yard and beds. Transplanted a couple of plants Friday. Captured groundhog and released in preserve. Still have one more "chucky" to go (I hope there's no more). Gettin' the bar-by ready for tomorrow family day. Put top on gazebo before the rain started. Where the hell is spring?!
Ge1836, nice steps. We are building some here as soon as I find the time.
Frank, I agree. Cool and rainy here, so I am trying to unpack a "few" more boxes that came yesterday from Avant. Super plants. I am still waiting for some other orders from Davidsan, a second box from Topiary Gardens, Lazy Z, as well as a big order of lilies from Faraway, Siberian Iris Garden (the best) and Caladiums4less as well as some plants Deer Resistant and a few more things from Touch of Nature and some more plugs from TNN. I have them all entered and a plan as to where they are going.....but there may be some rearranging as I, as usual, have ordered way too many plants for spring. And I haven't been on my nursery crawls yet. Out of control. But Plant Happy, but wish the weather was warmer. Late spring. Patti
We won't be prepared for the 70 degree temps the weathermen are predicting.....
I would be happy with sun, no matter the temp. But the spring bulbs are loving this rain. I just don't feel much like walking around and seeing them in the rain. I am hoping tomorrow is drier. Patti
Getting my Bloom River conifer delivery today. Hope to plant it and the JM's this coming week - if the rain ever stops!
I'm still pulling grass/weeds. I took my rototiller to the lawnmower repair shop...closed. I tried the second choice of repair shops...closed. Last week I tried to rent one......closed.
Marilyn, I have that same problem. Casey likes to dig holes, although much smaller than in her earlier years. Now they're just big enough to turn your ankle.
You'll be stronger than Superman by the time you're done, Louise!
I know my right arm will be!
Bill, Frank, Patti and Marilyn, sounds like you've all been busy.
Yesterday was gorgeous weather and I did not do much outside. I was very tired. Have been all week. Don't know why. I did get a little clean up work done. Also did some labeling and planted/transplanted some daylilies. Today I sowed some daylily seeds. Will do more tomorrow. Supposed to be pretty good weather. Maybe a little rain. They're saying 50% chance of showers.
Patti, I would definitely be going gangbusters on the spending on plants like you if I had the money. Heck, I am, but to a much lesser extent.
Karen
Even tho it poured yesterday morning, the day turned out great.
