I covered my seed bed last night because of the rain that was coming . Should i have covered it? The seedlings that have came up on my other beds and pots like the rain . But I have rose moss and petunias and cosmos and they are barely covered and I didn't want the rain to wash them away. They haven't started sprouting yet.
covered outside seed bed from rain
I would make sure you uncover the seed beds in the morning, they will germinate better when watered, but I know how you feel about this, there's water and there's torrents of rain, I use the horticultural fleece to protect my seedlings in the really rainy weather, this fabric comes in long lengths, lets light and water through to the soil AND is as light in weight as the old angel hair we used to hang on Christmas trees, well we did.
If you buy the fleece, don't lay it tight on the seeds, you need to allow for the seedlings to grow up-wards, I lay mine over the beds then put pleats in the fabric and lay a few stones on the edge to prevent it blowing away, is is very cheep to buy and also protects my seedlings from birds and snails etc.
Good Luck, WeeNel.
Thank you for the information I took the covering off yesterday after it cleared off. Where do I find this horticulture fleece. we don't have a lot of greeen houses around my area we have Lowes ,Walmart and that's about it.
Lowe's should carry it. Home Depot?
