It's a blurry photo, I know, but my camera doesn't want to get really close close-ups....
it was vivid greenish, with black eyes and antennae. big bum, skinny top. About the size of a woman's thumbnail. I saw it on my bell pepper plants.
Is it friend, or foe?
thanks.
What Bug Is This?
Bumping this up.
I don't know if I'm even posting this in right section - it wouldn't let me post in bug files.
does anyone have any idea what this could be???? I just want to know a general area to start. I don't even know what kind of family of bugs to look at to pin down specific bug.
thanks.
Is the bug still around? It's so hard to tell - as you said the photo is blurry.
From it's general shape it looks like a weevel, but I don't know why a weevel would be on an outdoor plant, they usually hang out where there is grain to eat. And is it really a bluish color? Or is it closer to brownish-black?
bright green with long black antennae. i haven't seen it or anything else around since i took this photo. but it was segmented; bum was big and almost tear-drop-shaped, mid-section was like a flattened oval, and the head seemed kind of triangular.
it was really weird; it was like it sensed I was behind it, turned around kind of posed for the photo, decided i took to long, and moved. but then it came back and i swear it looked like the thing was trying to talk to me, LOL!
SoFlaCommercial - What you just described sounds like a praying mantis, but that's not what the photo looks like. If it indeed WAS a praying mantis - feel yourself lucky - it's one of the good bugs

Praying mantis will eat anything - when they are full grown, they will even eat hummingbirds!
From the pic and the description (which helped a lot) I'm gonna say it's a weevil type. Look up citrus weevil. They come in all colors. We have a different coloration here and smaller. But they do munch leaves. I rarely see them, maybe 2 a year. Usually a drive-by eating. If more than a few and they hang out in your yard, then that would be a problem.
I didn't know about citrus weevils, but I think that's what it is:

HoneyBee NC!
Yes, yes, yes! This is what it is! - http://bit.ly/i79u2d - it is a blue green citrus weevil.
how did you find it by a picture alone?
ray-der-phan - thank you so much . cool how you were able to pin it down by a mere description.
