I have a large mass of these lovely but invasive purple plants. I want to give a cutting to someone to put around her light post. Can anyone tell me the best way to do this? We are in zone 9.

I usually just dig up a clump since they grow and spread so quickly, but you can root stem cuttings in moist soil.

The only way I get success with cuttings IS, to make wire pegs (old Hair grips will do if you open them up) put some of the lower growth onto slits in the soil and peg nice healthy stems (preferably) without flowers on the stems, into the soil, water well and withing a few weeks they usually show signs of roots, I do this around June time or before the plant comes into flower, I have on occasions lifted up the foliage to do this and the stems have already done this job for me, but don't cut or lift the cuttings in the hot sunshine and water them well before you remove the cuttings from the parent plant. Good luck WeeNel.
Thank you "the moonhowl" and "Weenel"! I will try both methods!
You are surely welcome Max...good luck with your cuttings.

This plant actually is a weed. It will root this time of year in 1 week. Cut place in a pot of your favorite soil. keep damp for 1 week and your can transplant it the next. some times we stick a cutting in a 1 gallon pot in full sun irrigate as normal and roots are out of the pot in 7 days.
