I can't decide if my Ruellia in a pot is dead from the winter frost and snow. I pruned it back approximately one-third a couple of months ago and it is showing no sign of coming back. I saw at the local nursery that they are blooming. I have read on this forum that they are very hardy and almost always come back. Should I prune it back more and just wait, or can I assume it is gone? We are having warm days, although the nights are a little cool. I loved this plant last summer and was hoping it would come back.
Ruellia - Is it dead??
I have a hunch it might be gone. They are hardy down to your zone, but this past winter you had some, out of the ordinary, excessively long cold spells. You also had it in a pot so that would offer even less protection compared to if it was planted in the ground. They are fast growers once it warms up and if you're seeing no signs of growth, you may need to purchase a new one. Last winter was not your typical winter.
