I enjoy getting flowers from seeds, and I have just planted a large bed at the top of a slope in my yard. I have been told that I can put pine straw over the bed to help hold moisture in, but I am not sure about it. Pine straw generally inhibits weed germination so I am not sure how my flower seeds will germinate under it. Any thoughts?
Can I put pine straw over flower seeds?
So sorry no one has got back to you re the Pine Straw, I cant help either BUT, maybe the office where you live that is the horticultural experts can give you answers by phone call, as far as I know, they are always very helpful especially with armature gardeners.
Sorry I'm stumped on this one. WeeNel.
We've put straw over newly seeded lawns and it doesn't inhibit growth on the grass, just don't put it down too thick
Very doubtful if that will work well, especially if you put it down to early.
Thanks for the help everyone. I decided to go without it until the seedlings are up higher than the thin layer of pine straw. I'll just keep a close eye on them to keep them healthy.
