Question about my dumb cane

Cadillac, MI

I got this 2 years ago. It was about 3' high and within a month I was getting "flowers" which kind of excited me because I've heard of some who have never had their canes flower. This plant is now nearly 6' tall, never stops getting new leaves and even in the winter I was getting two a month. New leaf opens up and within two weeks I see another new one. (Have gotten no additional flowers in the last two years, tho.)

It had 3 stalks with one continuing to fall over so I cut it off and started a new plant with it and staked up the remaining two. But now to my problem......the lower leaves on mine get a rather soft stem on the lower leaves that curl downward sometimes causing the stem to bend simply due to the weight of the leaf. All this time I've been simply hacking them all off which is leaving me with a "tree" and lower leaves removed. I hate to cut off nice pretty leaves and was told that plants that get a draft will get soft stems. This does not apply to mine, however, as it's in the bedroom.

I don't know if this is natural or if something is wrong with the plant. I probably should leave it alone, stop removing all those leaves and leave it "el naturale"? Seems a shame to hack off perfectly good leaves simply because they are drooping. Does anyone know if these soft stems and drooping leaves are normal?

I also read if I removed a stalk for propagation that another stalk would grow in that area. That also did not happen.
