Like a horror movie....

Dallas, TX

Bought a 15gallon Mediterranean Fan Palm from Costco - lovely plant. Brought it home and just set it down waiting for this weekend to plant.

Was standing admiring it with my wife that evening and the thing jumped! The whole pot rocked! I looked in the foliage but nothing there. We waited a while and it jumped again.

There's something buried in the pot.....

It's been three days now and it's still jumping every so often. I called the nursery in CA and they were very nice but had no idea what it could be.

I am a bit scared to plant it now. Don't want to get bitten and don't want to find some smushed up critter. it's obviously more than just a wee mouse as the plant and pot must weigh over 30lbs...

What to do?????

I hasten to add, this is NOT an April Fool's gag!

What a crazy story. I'd leave it outside for a few days and hopefully the critter will leave.

wow I would totally put that pot outside if it's not already...snake came to mind or egads something just as horrid...hey do you have a particular person who used to be a friend? I'd invite them over to hold the pot while you pull it out from the steps of a ladder lol

Weeeeeeeeeal, I would go back to the self help A.A meetings and tell them they ain't helping, YET!!!!,or play some Calypso music and go jump around in time with the pot, or get yourself an agent and go tour the world with plant and pot on tow?????, you could call yourselves "The Fan Dancing gardeners from Texas

Other than that, if I were you, I would be loosing the will to live as I would have emptied the pot by now while wearing a suite of Armour and big studs on the soles of my boots, ha, ha, ha. good luck anyway. WeeNel.

Keep us informed PALEEEEEEEASE.

Could your critter be under the pot rather than in it? Where did you set it down?
Maybe you set it over a hole.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Les. I agree with Missingrosie. If you set the pot on the ground you may have covered over a gopher or armadillo hole. ya really need to resolve this for we are a curious bunch....grin

Well ?

I think the Anaconda ate him....

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Either that, or the plant walked away and he hasn't found it yet....or....it was an AF joke.....grin

:) right back atcha Moon

From the description, it makes it most unlikely that anything was actually in the pot. Anything big enough to move that amount of weight would have to have a fairly large burrow (and the plant would suffer) and an egress hole that would be fairly visible I would think. Since there has been no further comment from the original poster, I guess the disclaimer of not an AF joke, was part of the joke....GRIN

That or he has a neighbor with a sense of humor and knew how to play it.
