I'm in Jacksonville Florida - our neighbor had these planted (he's gone now) and a bunch are coming up in our yard this year from the winds, etc - does anyone know what this is?

That's spiderwort (Tradescantia virginiana).

I found out that all of the parts of the plant are edible. A colleague uses it for food.
