Well here I am again...
We purchased a dwarf (patio) peach tree at our local Home Depot in College Station. I trans planted it to it's permanent container, etc. What I would like to know is do these need another for pollination? You know, like when you want to have a Red Delicious apple and you need to have a Golden Delicious to cross pollinate? We really are going to purchase another our next payday...but I wanted I guess the assurance that we will get yummy peaches this season.
Is one enough?
It is my understanding that peach tree's are self pollinators (they do not need to cross pollinate). However, most fruit tree's have better tasting and and more prolific fruit if there is more than one variety. I currently have 2 peach tree's and they are prolific in south alabama. If you decide to get another variety...check the bloom time. Mine tend to bloom on different schedules defeating the purpose of cross pollination. Good Luck.
