leaves but no flowers

London, United Kingdom

Can anyone help me with this bulb question?

I moved into my house in the autumn. This spring, absolutely masses of bulbs (I assume) have sprouted in the front garden but, other than about 10 daffodils, there are no flowers, just leaves. I also planted lots of bulbs, not realising there were lots in the ground already. A few anemones have come up, but nothing else.

Do bulbs sometimes not flower every year? Or could they be "spent" - should I just dig them up? Or perhaps they are overcrowded - you can basically just see leaves and almost no earth, there are so many of them.

Thanks!

Jane, you may want to give the garden some time. Many bulbs put out leaves before they bloom. Not all bulb plants bloom in the spring.

anyway to get in touch with prior owner to ask what's in the bed? Moon is right - there are lots of bulbs that will put up straps in the spring but not be spring bloomers - Lycoris, Crinums and Crocosmia's are a few that come to mind...

Also, if you like, put up a few close up pictures and we can try to ID for you :)
