We came from here:

Although it's spring, it's been very cold here, which has slowed down any migration I guess.
So, let me start off with the Dark-eyed Junco, since I will not get a chance to start a new thread before they head north.
Daily Bird Pictures, Vol. 390
Nice pics Mrs Ed! Thanks for starting the new thread! I still have lots of Junco's here too since the cold temps are staying with us. Nice to see the Goldfinch!
My problem with all the Common Grackles is not letting up and since I'm going through an incredible amount of seed in no time at all I've decided it is best if I take down the seed feeders.
It really hurts me to do this but hopefully they will go away and I'll be able to put the feeders back up in a few weeks.
The nyjer feeders will be left up.
Nice pics annabelle!
Lily, Is the pulley holding up the line bird feeders?
Yes Pelle, it serves a nice purposes. Lot of the time birds perch on them waiting in line for their turn to the feeder too.
Nothing much to shoot today except sparrows. If any one needs sparrows, I have plenty. I will share, or you can take all. I walked around the neighborhood and saw nothing but Downies and Grackles, I heard a Pileated but some guy had some work being done at his house so I could not pinpoint his position, I saw plenty of evidence that he is there, but just not today. Oh well, there is always tomorrow. A lot of trees had holes in them and bark stripped off the way they do. I did get this little fellow at the Marina. He was posing for me so pretty.
Nice start Marna...the juncos are few here now and some of our Gold Finch are quite yellow now!
Welcome annabel...we love Hoary Red Polls here!!
Teddy don't forget lots of birds make holes...including Flickers! Also be watching for warblers over the next few weeks of migration. You might find lots of wonderful birds while out walking!
Thanks for the welcome folks.
We too have some nuthatches. We have this wee fellow and the same look just bigger and then the big size one with the all white chest.
These little ones dart in and out so fast it's hard to catch them at the feeders. I have found that if I don't look at them they think I can't see them and they stay a bit longer.
Ann
Saw a couple of crows chasing an owl this afternoon.
Nice shots tiger, love the Spotted Towhee!
I love seeing all your birds in flight. They are beautiful.
Met...nice shots...love seeing the vulture & the osprey!
Tiger...very nice shot of the Wood Duck hen!
Teddy ...if you can, walk in the morning when birds are busy searching for food. I used to walk every morning and evening after dinner and this is when I would see most of birds. I need to get back into the habit myself!
Every morning last week I was hearing a towhee very close. This morning one finally showed up in the yard....So first Eastern Towhee in the yard for 2011! To bad it was very overcast instead of bright and sunny for a good pic! lol
I need to get in that habit myself, I overdid it a little bit yesterday and my legs are telling me about it. I may go out for a while and see what I can see.
I really miss the towhees. I haven't heard one in some years.
Can someone tell me how something as big as a crow can hide so good, I went out this morning for a while and heard him pounding, so I went over to where I THOUGHT he was, as soon as I got there he quit, and by golly he hid! Going to maybe get a feeder to put on the tree when I get my taxes back, I will have to get the Hot Pepper Suet so the squirrels won't eat it, does that really work, the squirrels have been trying to get the upside down feeder, they get on it and there is nothing to hold on so they slip off. It is funny, they get so mad!
Mrs Ed, thank you for the new start. Love your photos, especially the junco and ducks.
Pelle, sorry you're having to remove your feeder for a while-hope it helps.
Annabell, welcome! Cute photos of your finches and congrats on the redpoll. Love that look on the nuthatch looking at the sparrow.
Teddy, enjoy the downeys-they're such sweet wps.
Met, beautiful photos of all the raptors. That vulture is fantastic.
Iris, the crows are really protective of "their" territory. Two of our crows chased off an eagle and a hawk just yesterday.
Tiger, wonderful photos, especially the wood duck hen-wow, she's beautiful.
This Bald Eagle was coming straight at me yesterday. I'm always amazed at how flat they are when head-on.
Duc fantastic photos of the juvenile Eagle and the crow with nesting materials even the sky was gray.
Great start Mrs. Ed. Love that Dee.
Wonderful pictures everyone.
Comment regarding Flickers visiting suet feeders. I have four (2 pair) hope I get to see some babies, that started visiting my suet feeders this year. One, two, or each of them visits at a different time during the day. So far, their visits have been regular. They really chew up the suet. Two of them can nearly down an entire cake in a visit. Better them than those stinking Grackles!
