Wooly Thyme and Shade Garden Questions

Lehi, UT

Hi everybody,

I'm trying to teach myself to be a gardener. Our backyard is completely rocks and clay so we put down railroad tie sized boards and filled them with good soil to make raised beds for my vegetable garden. My Dad did the same at his house and he tills the ground between the boxes to keep it clear of weeds, but my ground is so yucky that would be an awful chore. My plan was to put wooly thyme in between the boxes because I really like it's look and feel. Is wooly thyme too invasive for that purpose?

Also, I want to plan a foundation garden on the North side of my house. The spot starts getting shade at noon, does it need part-shade or full-shade plants?

Thanks!

Thyme is a great idea as it can tolerate poor soil conditions, smells great when stepped on - creeping thyme would also be a good choice

For the North side you could most likely get away with both types of plants - a lot of plants that say full shade can take morning sun if moisture needs are met
