Pekin, IN(Zone 6a)

transplanted new growth to other areas, some took, some died out....what, besides mulch ,can I do to help new plants to establish themselves. Are there soil additives that may help. Also, seems they do well in shade or sun .I have mine growing as trees .found out(after listening to wife),best way to dig up new growth, was to water heavy, pull up slow.
