Barbara Mitchell is my favorite of all time. I have a giant clump of it and there is no way I will divide until it stops blooming........... We are on year 5 , it was fabulous last year.
Here is another one I like alot and is a great bloomer
Broken Heart ................now I need to buy Cheating Heart to sit beside it.. my grower had it last year but I was too late it was all gone by the time I saw it.
Deejay I will be more than happy to share with you ... I have a question after planting the daylillies should I cut the tops off in angle?
Cindy
Fruity,
That one is beautiful!
That was only a two year old clump, Kathy, and can't imagine how stunning yours must have been at 5 years old.
CIndy, I thought about cutting the tops off --- and I do in the Fall when I mail Daylilies. Personally I'd leave them on since it's so early in the growing season. Nitrogen from the leaves will help feed the tubers and produce stronger roots. If the yellow leaves bother you, they'll eventually turn brown and you can rip them out.
Thank you, Paula :)
One box left....who wants to adopt it?
BAJA
Cindy, the tops will all die back anyway, so you can cut them back some, but leave some for energy for the plant to put out new fans of leaves and new roots.
Dorothian Is OUR Expert In DL 's SO Ask away & She can answer for us .
When I Ordered From the Lily Auction a few years back In the SPRING When My Lilies came from 3-4 differant sellers they were all Cut back to about 5-6 in from roots I Planted them & With in Just a couple Months or so the LEaves were all grown Back Up ,
so when I Dig them To send that was how I Aways cut them before i shipped . & Many who rec'd Plants of MINE Last Spring said they had Beautiful Blooms yet .
so WHO KNOWS BEST ???? I Would really like to know I Do not want to hurt the poor Plants . & by cutting the tops off I could get more in the boxes to share:)
Cutting the tops back also helps to get them cleaner. Less chances of transferring any undesirables to someone else's garden. You can have soil pathogens and tiny insects that like to hide in the foliage. So it is better to cut them back. Some shippers also dip them in a 10% bleach solution.
I have been debating who to request daylilies from and finally concluded that I would be better off waiting until September. I would love to have some but I am about to get really busy and I will have to dig up and amend a new bed. I am hoping that the swap will go on until late summer/early fall and that someone will still be offering.
Alana
ALANA : Now you should KNOW One or ALL Of us can save you a BOX For Fall SHIPPING :))))
Just choose one or all of us :)))
Well, Dad did it AGAIN! He was spraying weeds and sprayed some of moms daylilies that had started growing. I am in the hunt for a few more. It is a perpetual game in that yard to keep things alive. I spend a fortune in that fight. He kills anything green in the flowerbeds in the spring and I buy and replant! I could practically hear her yelling at him here at my house 3 miles away. Lucky he only got one flower bed this year.. she got out there fast enough this year to stop him. Anyone have ANYTHING in DL available? LOL
BTW.. he is only allowed outside the fence with the weed killer at my yard!

Have you received my check?
Cedar,
ARGH. Good thing I was indecisive...my car is not being cooperative and not sure what the problem might be. :( Appointment on Monday to find out the damages.
I don't want to hold anyone up or keep anyone from getting the box they really want. I'll just wait around and if this is still going on in a couple of months I will claim a box. I have a spot in mind that would be a good candidate for yet another bed if I can get it prepared.

TY kATHY GOTIT DONE
dorothian,
Why do some growers cut the roots back? I have bought from 2 different well known growers that do this.
PAGARDENER, some growers think that cutting the roots back will stimulate new/more root growth. I try not to do this as I feet they need all the roots to get established. Some of the older roots will die back after they are planted in the ground, but I want to let the plant decide.
interesting.... I can see cutting back the foliage, but not the roots.
Thank you for answering my question I just putting them in the ground now they are all tucked in.
I would like any that are not the typical yellow and orange. I am good with any other ones. I am not sure how I do this exactly. Please direct or assign me to someone, if you don't mind. I love DL and they are so expensive, I don't have many and they are all the regular above mentioned colors.
Hook me up Please. I'm in....help me please.
Dawn
