I see many of you have No trouble paying $14.95 . for 1 4"potted plant $2-$3. packing fee & a 10.+ postage That MIGHT GROW & yet in our group We are offering 6 + named plants THAT WE KNOW WILL GROW .
I Hope that this will easy your opion of us . we started out as gardener just like you . & Some day I Hope all of you might be here Offering to other NEW MEMBERS OR EVEN ONES THAT HAVE BEEN HERE For MANY YEARS .
We all Look for New plants to add to our gardens . Sorry for the rant but i just wanted to set the record straight.
Happ I rec'd your Postage today thank you .
deejay, all my daylilies I got from everyone including you are all growing well. I am checking everyday for flower buds. As most of them flowered when you all sent them to me last year, I know I will get more flowers this year.
The only problem that you all have caused me is that now I see a picture of one I don't have and I now have a wish list for those. Must get this yard under control so I can have more daylilies, more iris, more! more! more!. My niece is almost ready for me to start helping her landscape her yard and so I will be looking for more trades, esp for postage!!
Well I Think this will stay open till fall or till most of these are gone as we send & I Have been told they have arrived & marked as so , then , we will let you all know what we have left when they are gone that will be it till next Spring .
So Marti have you your New home set Up yet ?
Let me make it clear I heard NO COMPLAINTS From anyone In our group .
Not going to get new trailer. :( Just don't have the credit rating or the $6000.00 down they want because of the credit rating. :( :(
Friends are going to help us next year to enlarge our current trailer and make it like new. When we finish the trailer will be 20 feet wide and 80 long, with three bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. We will have to do it a room at a time as we come up with the money for supplies, but thats how they enlarged their trailer and it looks great. Meanwhile I'm getting back to my yard plans. I will have to move a few things to enlarge the trailer but not as much as I would have had to do to put a new trailer on the property.
Forgot! I put off going to Calif til mid July. I'll come back the later part of August.
HAVE A SAFE TRIP
marti, if I remember, you sent me my first DLs. I just want you to know they are all doing WONDERFUL and multiplied like crazy over our winter. I'm looking forward to the blooms later this spring. :)
I've never bought plants this way, so I'm wondering if I can specify that I order from somebody in a zone close to mine. That way maybe my plants will go through less shock.
silverfluter - that's what I did. Alana was sweet enough to sponsor and send a beautiful box of DLs.
You may check with Fruity. I think she's still sponsoring a box or two and she's not too far out of our zones. :)
Fruity, are you out there?:) And do you still have a box? I'd prefer named daylilies
careyanna, I never sent daylilies to anyone. All the ones I havae are still not grown enough to send to anyone. Maybe next year I can start dividing some. I know that there is another marty out there. Maybe got your dayliles from that person. I am glad the are doing so well for you though. Its always good to hear that trades are doing well. Keep up the good work.
Susie, I totally agree......our sponsors are awesome folks who go out of their way to offer great daylilies, and the postage doesn't cover your time & effort at all, nor near what the plants would add up to for small pots from a nursery or mail order.
There's someone about 50miles from here who sells their DL every year...I've seen their ads on CL .... Pics of nice blooms, but prices are from $4 -over $100 for dbl. fans depending on the variety!
Thanks and big {{{HUGGS}}} to all of our sponsors!!!!
Well I sure think it is fantastic of all you sponsors to offer up your plants. Yes, they are a ton of work to dig, split, and clean. I just wanted to say thanks for sharing the bounty and taking the time to share with others. $35 is drop in the bucket if you go looking for daylilies.
Also, if they are ready to split then they are proven plants. How many of us have bought a plant for $$$ just to find it died.
So Thanks
Julia
silverfluter, You are welcome to a box of named Dayllies. Shoot me a D-mail with your mailing info.
oh lol! Sorry Marti. Either way, thank you. :)
careyana I am so glad you are happy with your plants! I agonizied over which varieties to send but each one I sent you is one I enjoy having in my garden.
Susie, I am sorry someone complained about the postage cost. They must not purchase many daylilies. I spent 22.00 mailing careyana's and have no complaints at all about that, but for the naysayer's information that leaves 13.00 for digging, cleaning, labeling, preparing for shipment, boxing up and driving to the P.O. I did a brief online survey of a few of the varieties I sent and you can buy most of them online for between 10.00 and 25.00.
I did not offer a box to make money on them-I just thought it would be fun to share my garden-and it was!
Alana
Welcome silverfluter
I See that FOTV Was watching :))) She can Fix you up But also I Just would LIKE to say this about DAYLILIES
they are some of the Most Hardest & toughest Plant .
Would Like to say I Have rec's DAYLILIES FROM FLORIDA To Calf
From TX TO NY & Maine & All I Have done IS Planted them .
When i Started collecting DL'S my grounds were just solid clay , sand, mix & I amend as I go , & They all are growing great .
Back then I Never Knew there was a Difference in Tet;s or evergreen ect ect I just Bought or traded For what I Wanted when I Wanted , I Planted DL's Even in NOV Here & They still Bloomed in the spring.
Just to tell you how tough they are .3-4 yrs ago this lady in town had just BEAUTIFULL Daylilies & Her son Got the House after she Passed , He had dug up all those plants Loaded them on a trailer took them Back in the woods & Dumped them , well my friend & I stopped in there for the sale & I ask Donny about the Daylilies
he told me where they were & I asked him if i could have them he said yes so we went back & got them
they had been there for over 2 months some were even blooming . no dirt just root balls .
I Still Have many & I Have shared Many of them with you all .
The point is Most of them if you look them up with grow from zone 3-9 & If your in those zones they will grow fine
as long as you plant them well.
Thanks alana , There are many who do understand , that this is a better IDEA Then to Put these into our Mulch pile I Just enjoy shareing .
as some of you know I trully debated as to offer this again this year or not with a conflick about postage last year.
& I did not want that again this time but guess you just have to roll with it :)
Some will understand what it takes & Be thankful :)
Happy gardening to all .
Susie -
I agree. I am glad you are doing this again - I had heard such wonderful things about this swap and to me the $35 is irrelevant. It isn't the money - it is the comeraderie (sp?), yes - there is work involved digging and splitting up plants, but it is all done with great care for a fellow gardener.
If there are those that don't like it, they don't have to partake......
NOT SURE WHAT HAPPEN TO THIS POST SO JUST DELETED IT ALL :)))

I agree with what everyone is saying. I looked at the catalogs and the auctions and what everyone is offering is MORE than reasonable. I'm thrilled I have so many to put in the ground (I pot them first to work on soil amending) and now have 13 varieties.
Susie, I think I might be in for another box from you in a month or so. :)
well when you know for sure that you want one i will be happy to Share with you . JLMK
Thanks FOTV. I'll send you a dmail.
And as far as complaints about the pricing. I did wonder why "postage" was $25 and $35. But maybe if you clarified it by saying "postage and labor" you would have fewer complaints. It's definitely not the postage that drives the cost, it's the labor. I dug up a large hosta to send to somebody as a trade. It took me all afternoon and it is not a job I would want to tackle again by myself. It is a labor of love and I take my hat off to those who volunteer to do this on such a large scale for a pauper's wage.
ty silverfluter
