Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Look at the counts tonight.....57 replies and 743 views tells me there's a lot of folks out there peeking in that ought to join. You won't be disappointed. I was a recipient last year from dorothian and Joy in separate swaps, and am so glad I can be a sponsor this year and "pay it forward".

(Carey) Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Fruity don't tempt me with another box. I'm not 100% sure where I'm going to put the first one!

Are daylilies deer resistant? I know daffs are but not sure about DLs...

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

How I wish they were. We came home from vacation last June in the height of blooming season for many of mine, and between then and Fall, the deer had nipped off so many buds I felt like crying. Several of my D/L's were new and never had a chance to see them bloom but am hoping for better results this year. We have a new yard dog who doesn't let anything or anyone on our property go unnoticed. Other than wasting my money spraying liquid Deer Fence, she's my only hope.

(Carey) Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Darn. I was afraid of that. Backyard only.... :/ Oh well, they'll be a nice surround for my eventual arbor and bench. :)

Mailing daylilies next week? envy here, mine are just peeping up here.

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

MANY have dmailed me to ask if these are DEER RESISTANCE & I Can only Say No ***** BUT*****
I Have found that when I use ****IRISH SPRING SOAP *** In Onion bags tied to a stake or in flower pots throughout my gardens I Do not have any Problems with the deer or Rabbits. . TRUE STORY.

I 'm Happy to be able to share Not sure How Long I will be able to.
These are Beautiful Daylilies That
You can not go to the local wal-mart or Garden center & Purchase .

well off to the great out doors . later this morning you all have a great day .

Irish Spring ? Just the orginal scent? I love the smell of Irish Spring. Hey will it keep cats away?

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

for 2 yrs i didn't see Blooms on my ASIATIC Lilies till last spring when i Put 3 bars of soap out in that garden
& I Had BEAUTIFUL Blooms this Last summer there were some blooms of daylilies I didnot see at the edge of the gardens but i will cover that this year :) .

Athens, PA

Carey

Daylilies would be beautiful around an arbor and a bench. Oh, I have such a beautiful picture in my mind of that!

(Carey) Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Carolyn you should see the drawing DH made for me. Oh my. Someday he may even build it! lol

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Went scoping my Daylilies again today to see what's ready to divide and can't believe some are already approaching a foot tall. Their sudden growth spurt might be courtesy of our super warm temps and sunshine last week, and the two weeks of rain every few days last month and in early March.

Susie, please put me down to sponsor one more box of named D/L's, making a total of three for me.

Delray Beach, FL(Zone 10b)

May I join this one as for 6 noid daylilies?

The daylilies and irises from last year are just starting to peak thru the ground. Some of the daylilies from last summer's swap even bloomed last year. Mine aren't established well enough to divide, yet, but maybe they will be next season. I am so glad that they snow and ice are finally gone and things are starting to sprout.

What does the soap do? I heard about some people using Irish Spring to deter deer....That stuff makes me sneeze and would probably give me a rash.

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

As for the soap I will yes makes me sneeze but also deer DO NOT LIKE the Smell. & If that means keeping them away from my buds I Will bare the sneezing :)

weds I Planted a few plants out in my small garden by thursday noon when i went out to the garden there were deer tracks so went to town bought the soap Hung it up & raked the old tracks from the deer & No new tracks as of last evening when i walked out there .

will it work I will let you know when all my asictic bulbs come up .

DJ, check is in the mail. Thank you.

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

Another trick for rabbits, and it may work for deer is to use Tabasco sauce. Mix like an ounce to a quart spray bottle and spray the plants and the ground around them. If it rains, you might have to respray.

Delray Beach, FL(Zone 10b)

I am near protected land, the Delaware River and lots of woodland. Deer don't venture near my gardens, thank goodness. They must find plenty of food elsewhere. Friends in other areas nearby have problems with them. I have enough problems with voles, moles, skunks, chipmunks and the neighbor's unruly dogs.

I spray the hostas and earwig/slug susceptible planting areas with 10 % ammonia/water. I also spray my roses with Bayer disease control for fungal disease. I use neems oil at times as well. My gardening philosophy is affordable natural methods with careful chemical use only where necessary (and not near food plants). what do you experts feed your daylilies. I topdressed them with some manure yesterday - just in time for the snow today.

I emailed my partner, pagardener.

(Di) Seven Mile, OH(Zone 6b)

Susie, I sent a check to you in today's mail.

Barbourville, KY(Zone 7a)

I mailed careyana's named Daylilies yesterday. I will email her the DC information later today when I have more time.
Hope she likes 'em!
Alana

You mailed daylilies? Wow . ........ just peeping and we had just a bit of ice yesterday morning. calling for wet snow tonight and maybe Sunday. Where is spring??

I Agree Kathy where is SPRING:

Tyler, TX(Zone 8b)

Spring is definitely here in NE Texas! Last frost was a week ago and we're aleady hitting mid-upper 80s.....its gonna be a HOT summer, LOL. Most of my plants still haven't popped up yet either.

(Carey) Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Mid 80's here the last few days, the redbuds are almost finished blooming, and my orchid tree is covered in buds. It doesn't get much better!

I'll let ya'll know when they get here. Thanks Alana!
