Four Nerve Daisy--blooms faithfully from spring til frost
Early Bloomers
That is really nice Stephanie.
The Four-nerve Daisy can be picky, but if it decides that it likes where you put it, it will reward you basically all year long.
I love Violets, but I am having a problem with them in my new beds, someone must be eating them under the mulch, because when I look I just see nubs with no leaves, it might be the sow bugs, they like to eat plants under the mulch.
Josephine.
The snails and slugs like to munch on them, too. I had a time with them last year! So far, so good this year!
Wow, those look great! Much better than the clump I dug them out of. You must have better growing conditions than I!
I was told that wood violets are close to invasive but I have lost most of mine.
Four nerve daisy is a winner. Wish I made it my avatar!
I had violets "show up" but now I am thinking they come home with other plants from one of the RU's. Mine are purple too and they are growing in a little shade in the area near the little pond which is damper than most of my beds. I think mine pretty much disapear with the heat, at least they did last year.

I got violets the very same way. :-) They're in a heavily shaded area near the back foundation and haven't come out yet this spring. They are very pretty, and seem to stay in one place. Nothing blooming in my yard yet, so keep those lovely photos coming!

I think they are the only things blooming in my yard. Some rain would speed growth up. Oh I do have two bunches of 4 nerve daisies with a few flowers open.
I planted mine in dappled shade along my front walkway. They get pretty pitiful looking in the real heat of the summer, but don't disappear. It's one of the places that I frequently forget to water, too.
Anything showing life counts in my book!
Such happy little flowers!
We're working on getting the veggie bed ready. Things are popping out all over the place!
My volunteer old-fashioned vining petunias are blooming. They hitched a ride and sprouted up during cold weather next to other plants I had transplanted a couple of months earlier from front yard to the new backyard beds. Nice surprise. Unfortunately, they are all just plain light orchid color and not the dark purple or star pattern that I like the best.
And I almost forgot the pincushion flowers that never skipped a beat all winter long.

I never knew those pincushion bloom in winter. Are yours in sun?
I got a little shaker can of wildflower seed from the dollar spot at Target a few years ago and never did anything with it. So last fall I spread them out in 2 bare spots in my front beds. On top of pine bark nuggets and just watered them in. Now some are coming up! No idea what they are but here's the first bloomer. Can't wait to see what else will pop up! Janet in W Houston
Janet, that is a lovely California Poppy, very pretty.

Yes, they are in sun and our garage is beside this bed, so it shields it from north wind. I put these plants in late summer last year. My first pincushion flowers, had no idea what to expect and was surprised that it kept on blooming. I covered this bed during the freeze with cotton sheets.
My Scabiosa (pin cushion) only partial sun bloom late into the fall and is setting buds now. Four nerve in the same area doing great but no blooms as yet.
Yes drthor I think maples count they are pretty this time of year. I have a peach tree that bloomed nicely this year...gone with the wind too Greta. Violets are popping up everywhere.
Sorry about the mystery cutter Josephine. I know you don't like to use chemicals but since the mulch may have brought in something, you may have to treat it once at least.
My scabiosa is setting blooms. It almost disappears in the really hot part of the summer, but comes back in the fall.
re: Scabiosa. Same in my backyard right now. It and the Dianthus are both setting buds and will soon be in full glorious bloom. I am so ready!

ya"ll are about a month ahead of me in the DFW area. I am hurrying spring and living vicariously thru you. Thanks
I have dafffs and violets, all else is greening up. I am getting excited. If we don't have harsh weather with winds and hails this year It loks like my iris and daylily will be spectacular
I'm really hoping that my Drummond phlox come back this year.
All of my phlox are really putting out leaves now, so I sure don't want a freeze.
Are Johnny jump ups native? If so I am planting a packet or two.
