And a Nuttall's Woodpecker that finally started coming up to the peanut butter log, but still won't let me get closer.

You know, I could probably get more birds if I put peanuts and nuts, but then I would attract the squirrels, and that is something I can't afford to do. I did that one day and the squirrels got the nuts before the first bird ever came down. I wonder if I fed the squirrels across the street if they would stay away from the feeders, they look so pitiful trying to find something to eat. I saw the black and white wp this morning, but he took off before I could catch him. I made a mistake earlier, I said he was the same size as the downy, he IS NOT! He is not as large as the Pileated, but a little larger than the downy, I think he might be the 3 toed woodpecker, don't know yet.

Hairy woodpecker?

Lakeview, OH

No, he is larger than that.

I have a question, I have some fresh lard, if I mix that with peanut butter, will the birds like it?

Teddy and others with bird feed questions, let's take the feed chat over to a new thread as not to clog up the daily photos.

This picture cracks me up. It's a domestic Greylag Goose I believe, but was just very funny how it was looking at me over the others.

This one is funny to me too. They all had a feed up on the hill and were heading back to the pond. Single file is the only way to go when you are a duck, I guess.

LOL Mrs. Ed. Wonder what that goose is thinking that is giving you the once over. Big OOPS on second photo. LOL

Enjoy the Tree Swallows, duc. Don't think I've ever seen one, but I know where some are in the SE corner of the state. I'm planning a trip down there this spring, maybe I can see some.

A Common Snipe, they migrate through here, not permanent residents.

The Pileated Woodpecker paid me a visit, I didn't get the camera fast enough, but I saw him!!! He was at the base of the tree in front of the house, I went out to try to find him, listened for his call, heard him but could not locate him. Do you know, for a bird as big as he is, he can sure hide good!

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Awww, I'm jealous of your Pileated Wp teddy, Red, I like that Common Snipe "Geez, what long bill you've got!" Duc, love those Tree Swallows. Purple Martin are now arriving here. I've a neighbor that host them lovely. Neighbor said, the Martins are now 'scoping out' their prospective houses, but haven't starting to build on them yet.

Great Blue Heron stopping by to check out our Koi pond which almost got flooded out on our backyard.
