But he is such a handsome fella.
Daily Bird Pics - Vol. #386
He sure is handsome red. Nice pics guys!
Has anyone had trouble getting pictures besides me? I even went outside and was looking and walking around and still no birds, there were sparrows but that is about it, maybe its the warmer weather, the downy woodpecker is coming to the feeder but that is it. And the wind is sort of brisk today, I did not even hear the Pl Wp drumming, I guess he must be somewhere else. Can someone either show me or tell me if you can tell if a pl wp has been on your tree, we have places where the bark has been stripped off, but no holes. Is that a sign, or not. Could this be some sign, or no?
This little Junco is named Scooter. You can see that he is missing part of his tail feathers. I found him upside down outside of my house two weeks ago, brought him and kept him in a wire cage for a few days until he could fly. He is named Scooter because the little bugger got away from me while I was changing the papers in his cage and feeding him. He could not yet fly, but he sure as heck could run. LOL
Beautiful BB's Red!
Things look busy at your house GG...and love seeing Scooter!
Don't think that is really a sign teddy. I have gone for a few walks this past week and the birds seem pretty active here. But this is a transition period for them as we have some nice days and thing are starting to grow and bugs becoming more abundant, looking for mates & nesting sites. Plus lots of birds have yet to arrive at their summer homes! I hear the Pileated's 'laugh' more than I do their drumming at this time of year.
You really just need to relax and learn to enjoy what is there and not worry about the rest. You might be amazed what nature will hand you.
Well I'm at my wit's end with the Grackle situation. Yesterday they ate 4 whole brand new cakes of suet (not a crumb left).
The only way I got birds to stop eating the suet was to place an upside down suet feeder along the tree trunk where birds could not perch. The Woodpeckers can get it, but no Grackles, etc. The squirrels rarely go after it, but 1 suet cake will last me over a week now.
Congrats Mrs. Ed on the C. Teal and also a lifer!
Alright Mrs-Ed!!!, congrats on the lifer, nice one at that.
Mrs_Ed, that is a pretty bird and congrats on a Lifer.
Hack
No birds at the feeder the last few days. Melting snow must have uncovered other food sources.
Nice shots GG, Hack, Burn and Lily!
Congrats on the lovely lifer Mrs Ed!
Nice collection of birds there Hack. Burn, I tried to find the differences b/w C. and Bc Dees, but I can't. They both are so cute.
Red-winged Black Bird's checking out the half submerged feeder. We've a nearly 6 feet flood to the backyard.
Simplest to tell them by location! Carolinas in the southeast, Black-cappeds in the north. Where they meet, there's a narrow band where you have to be careful; points to look for:
Carolina Black-capped
Wing: uniform greater coverts whiter-edged
Tail: shorter longer
Hope you're safe with that flood!
Resin
Thanks all for your concern. Resin, thankfully the water began to receede last night. The clean up process will start shortly.
