We are coming from http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1151372/#new headed out of winter.
We have multiple injured dogs suffering from arthritis, leg injuries and a nasty tumor.
Lets get them all up and running around soon.
I'm Andy P
This is Sarah
Northeast Forum Pets #11
Yankee, Sarah's arthritis is under control. She's 11 years old and doing fine except for this tumor.
She is actually doing too well. She was running & dancing last night and stopped with a yelp as she must have pulled something. I cut her pain pills in half today to remind her to take it easy. She wants to go for her walk but it's cold, wet and the streets are gritty with sand/salt. I hope tomorrows rain washed it away.

Glad to hear Sarah is feeling better.
Great photo Andy, glad to hear that Sarah is feeling better!
For the cat people.....Bugsy is consuming 4-5 cans of cat food a day, plus his dry food. Doesn't that seem like a lot of food?
Whoa, yes it does! My cats ate one can plus dry chow....is he gaining a lot of weight? Very cute photo of Sarah!
Thanks for the new thread! Here's hoping all our furry friends that are under the weather bounce back with flying colors♥
Some news I can't hold in any longer...we are meeting a new rescue Dane on Wednesday....he is 2 years old and just sounds like a great dog. Wonderful with people of all ages and other animals. The foster said after ten years of fostering, this guy has been the only one she has wanted to keep! We were supposed to get a puppy but with my back problems I realize it just isn't a good idea. I can't wait to meet him. His name is Diesel (not stuck on that) and weighs in at about 150, and will grow for another year. I don't think he will be as big as our giant Atticus but that is quite all right! He looks just like Atticus though and supposed to be a perfect gentleman.
Congrats Ronnie!! He looks like a sweetie and he looks VERY comfortable on the couch. I like the un-cropped ears.
Congratulations on the new pup!
venu209 - Whoa! Even if those are the Fancy Feast cans - that is way too much. Obesity is a huge problem in cats and effects their health. I feed no dry food and canned (95% meat with no grains) twice a day. I would think that two 5.5 oz cans would be enough for my Maine Coon - so it ought to be plenty for a "regular sized" kitty. I do give treats of freeze dried cod.
He's gotten larger but not overweight at all. He is extremely active, but I think I'll start ignoring some of his more plaintive cries for food.
What's wrong with Diesel? it's great for a big gray/splotchy coat dog.
Sarah was Sierra.
I don't know! LOL Maybe cause I didn't pick it! My husband likes it, I don't think I'll change it especially if he knows it.
Atticus was named Tsunami when we adopted him, we changed his the day we brought him home...he was only 8 months old with no training and would have answered to anything!
I like Sarah much better than Sierra.
Love the name Diesel
That sounds like a LOT of food for a kitty, but what do I know I've never had one
Jumper, don't let the cat hinder your movement. You are the master of the house, it must move.
I think this is why women prefer cats and men like dogs. Sarah learned fast to not hinder my movement especially in the dark. I just stepped on her a couple times to get that idea across.
How much to feed? Consider how much you eat per day and your weight. Compare it to your pet. I weigh 3 times Sarah, she gets one third my food equivalent.
Andy P
Thanks, Andy. She does move after I almost step on her a few times.
Congrats, Ronnie!
My cats make sure I don't hinder their movement, or lifestyle for that matter!
Salem likes to lay on top of anything on the floor or diningroom table. He claims everything!
so glad to hear Sarah is doing better!!!... and congrats Ronnie he is so handsome!!!
Glad Sarah is feeling better, good idea to cut the meds in half.
Ronnie, Diesel is one handsome dane.. congrats!
Thanks guys!
I love Diesel! Wish I was young enough to get another wolfhound, but I can't manage large dogs any more....Suey, at 50 pounds, is about my limit....Robs is 62 lbs....., but calmer now that he's almost 9......Very weird story about Robin's name......it was the original name given to him by his breeder......his other 2 names were Maddy & Indy given by the families who dumped him like garbage.....DH & I were adopting another dale named Rivers, when the family who owned him asked for him back from the rescue....but the name we had chosen for Rivers? Robin. How's that for raising the hair on your arms?
Great story Marylin, goose bumps indeed!
One of the reasons I decided not to get a puppy was not sure if I could handle all the training involved with my back. Diesel matched well with us since he has had a good bit of training and walks well on a leash. Seems that the husband was hitting him and the wife...wife left, took the dog (thankfully) and realized she couldn't care for him any longer on her own. Thank goodness for rescues and fosters! A lot of pounds can't keep dogs that size ):
going to need to start drinking today.. brought Eros & Hope to get fixed today... long story short.. they thought they had problems with there kidneys... all the blood work & tests they ran are ok.. it might be the dog food I am giving them is too high in protein .. so we are going to switch there food and try again in a few weeks.. I am soooooo shot!!!!
How frustrating!
when i got the call that they might have kidney problems... I of course panicked... glad it might just be a simple fix now
Bummer. Sounds like too much protein.
Oh no Allison, that is scary...how much protein is in the food you are using now?
Definitely all in the balance though, you don't want a grainy food that causes bladder problems
I think the one I give is pretty high in protein. Just checked ....26%
44.. didn't realize that was bad
http://www.evopet.com/products/default.asp?panel=in&id=1491
Wow that's real high! I know for growing Danes the high protein is a no no, I keep ours at 24% now that they are older.
Never checked mine.....never thought there was a problem with protein......Robs kibble has just 2 ingredients.....lamb & brown rice....he tends to have tummy troubles....
That is more like a cat food formula! I just checked the cat food I feed and it is between 7 and 10% protein. I guess that is because it is a lot of water - the dry cat is 50% protein.
you think all they eat in the wild is raw meat.. would never even cross my mind that protein would be bad for them.. Jily & Lily have been eating that food for years now... the vet told me if they were agility dogs ... it would be fine... because they are only running around for a short time... they don't need as much.. I buy the more expensive food thinking I am doing good... and not good at all.. sigh.. and Eros most likely drinks water like crazy to flush out his kidneys... Hopes levels were higher because she doesn't drink as much... guess I will go with the wellness that Michele feeds.. will be easier when they visit too.. if they are all eating the same food
skipped the drink and had a piece of chocolate covered bacon... all better now
:)
☺
I feed Wall-e Blue Buffalo
Chocolate covered bacon? That is heaven!
