And one taking off.
Daily piccies vol 383
Awesome to see Bald Eagle chicks! Congratulations.
teddy, I am not sure the pileated will be able to use you upside down feeder. It may be too low for them. Though you will see them on the ground looking for ants. Just not sure they can get up & under it at the height you have it. And again , the pileated require more clinging space than the smaller woodpeckers. I am using the cages right now since the squirrles destroyed the prop tail feeders. I leave the suet in the plastic container(opened of course) and put it all in the cage. This does a lot to discourage the squirrles. So you might try doing that. I have to bring them in at night so the raccoons don't get them.
This is a photo from yesterday and you can see the cage with the suet. The pileateds prefer coming in from the holes on the side of the cage because they are bigger and allow easier acces for their very large beaks. But, that does allow the squirrles better access too. This way it is not as easy for the squirrles so they don't hang around long. My suet cakes now last for several days!
Lily...that is VERY COOL!!!! Jealous here!!
Bur...I envy anyone who can get a good photo of a chickadee...Nice one!
You are very privileged to get to watch these two up close, nanny. I have two that I see occasionally, but I would love to see them in my yard. One landed in the top of my tree that holds my suet one day, but did not come down.
gp, you're absolutely right. I learned from friends who live nearby that they have Pileated wps that came to their feeders, but I've yet seen one nearby where I live.
awww
I want one of those...they are sooo cute!
Great shots everyone!! DG seems to be doing quite well. I have been working quite a bit lately, 6 and 7 days a week and the weather has been very poor for photo opportunity's. However I had today off and some sunshine is on the way...so I headed back to Pipe Creek and I will revive my old thread. As far as the backyard bird count, well lets just say the whole 4 days was bad weather and no birds. lol
We have started a new thread. Here is the link: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1161083/
See you there.
