Daily piccies vol 383

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Here's a strange one to start the new thread with, a Herring Gull × Glaucous Gull hybrid I found down at the fishing harbour a couple of days ago. A first-winter youngster.

Young Herring Gull has black wingtips, young Glaucous Gull has white wingtips, this one has pale brown wingtips, same colour as the rest of the plumage.

Good news, a Chickadee came and ate some of the suet cake! Also heard the woodpecker, did not see him, but I heard him. I have been outside for most of the morning trying to get the ice off hubbys truck, the windshield is cracked so I have to be careful. Not many birds here for some reason, not sure why.

Thanks for the new start Resin. Love that photo of the gull and the little siskin has just a little more yellow than our pine siskins-cute.

Burn great shots.

Nanny nice one of the geese.

GP, love that one of the wp!! Cute photos of all your birds, but that grackle is my fav.

Teddy, glad you saw a chickadee.

I'm behind on downloading my photos, but here's a House Finch.

Thanks Resin for a new thread. Gp love that Redbelled Wp pose, a rare find! Duc your orange variant Finch is adorable. Burn, what's a cutie-pie Pine Siskin. :) Nan, I like the Canadian Geese, a pair has stopped by to help clean up below the bird feeders this morning. Yikes! Soon I'll see those sweet little babies trailing behind them.

GP...love that RBWP shot...wild!! lol

All nice duc...would love to see a kinglet again!

here is the pic of the Chickadee on the feeder, the starlings land on the shepherds hook but they can't find the suet, and the squirrel don't even pay attention to it! Except for the rb wp not eating off it, it is a success!

Very cute Susan!

If I put a small chunk of suet on top of the feeder, do you think that will entice the rb wp to take a look at it? I know I have been a pain about this and I am sorry, just like my birds and patience is thinner when you get older. I think I may have made a mistake changing it like I did, but the neighbor who made the upside down one, took the other one so I just changed it overnight. So I am going to do that and see what happens, I will let you know.

I had a first this morning, a Summer Tanager! A sure sign that migration is on. Hummingbird.net has their 2011 migration map up. Come on Hummers.

Teddy, I haven't followed your suet issues, but the best thing you can do is to make your own peanut butter suet. Also include peanuts in your seed feeder. My RBWP are attracted to both. Downy and Redheaded will also come if they are around.

Yippies! Hummers are on the ways. Gotta get ready for the lovelies. I also agreed with gg on adding peanuts in the wildbirds' seeds. The woodpeckers love them.

Wow Congratulations gazergirl!!!! That is a great bird to have.

I'll get to work on that Hummer thread.

The light was way too harsh to be taking pictures but here is a male Northern Cardinal just a short while ago.

The yard has been pretty empty for most of the day due to a Sharp-shinned Hawk hanging around.

Teddy, cute photos.

Susan, your Downy wps are sweet!

Gazer, beautiful tanager!!

Pelle, sorry about the hawk, but your cardinal is beautiful.

This House Finch sure didn't want the Junco in this tree and finally did chase it off.

My Anna's hummers are increasing in numbers. More than 5 that I can identify, but I still think there's more around. We're seeing them everywhere on our walks around the neighborhood.
