Has anyone been successful with growing a Piper Nigrum (black peppercorn plant)?

Interesting question. I haven't, but it would be cool to try. I would also like to know if anyone has grown this.

I grew it in S. Alabama---It did well outside in the warm weather under 50% shade cloth. Produced baby peppercorns but they fell off and did not mature--back into the greenhouse in the fall. Then I moved so not sure how it would have done the next year. Beautiful vine. Easy to propagate by layering.
