Today, I am thankful for...#3

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Spring? Today it's snowing and cold.

Midland City, AL

Snow! I never thought I would miss snow. That seems like a very foreign concept already . Mama Kay and I are talking about moving to the summer schedule because it is so hot in the afternoons. Meaning we will get up before dawn and take afternoon siestas.
I am thankful rain is predicted for the weekend. It is drier than is usual for us this time of year. Also, that it is pizza night and I don’t have to cook. ~Nadine~

(Debra) Garland, TX

I am thankful that the Festiva Maxima I moved for the third time seems to like where it is. Shooting up new stalks and leaves and at least one bud earlier than ever.

Thankful the weather is supposed to hold good tomorrow since my sister has Casino fever and I'm leaving with her at 6:30 in the verydewyearlywhat-am-I-doing-out-of-bed morning.

Thankful two of the office kids will have time tomorrow afternoon to come rip up sod and dig trenches for brick borders.

Debra! You went to the boats in Shreveport! Did'nt you? I found out quick i was no gambler. My DD,s would have to pry the quarters out of my tightly gripped fists to put in the slot.I JUST COULD NOT HANDLE THE FACT,that a quarter would go in that horrible machine and nothing would come out. I probably could have bought a packet of seeds with that quarter.LOL
I have been very thankful for chicken soup and crackers and cokes. Now i want a pizza, cornbread and beans and soft fried potatoes.Fried Chicken, potatoes and gravy.
I am thankful for a little chihuahua that never left my side. A big dog and 3 cats that took turns sitting in my lap.Not to mention DD,S 2 dogs. I am blessed.

(Debra) Garland, TX

No, we went straight up 75 across the border to Oklahoma. I have to fight to let go of the money, but my sister LOVES going and she got the right genes from our professional gambler grandfather. Long term, she always at least breaks even. Me? I lose every penny in my pocket. LOL But its fun watching her.
=================================================================

Today, I am on-my-knees thankful that this afternoon's three vehicle sandwich, for which we were the filling, was no worse and that no one was more than twitched and twanged a little.

I am thankful the two office kids worked with enthusiasm, and are even becoming excited about their parts of my projects. Very grateful to them.

Like Vickie, I am thankful for the little dogs who want to stay by my side, especially when sleeping. Have forecast overnight mid-30s temps and won't need to turn the heat back. :-)

(Zone 7a)

Today, I'm thankful for Led Zeppelin, Clark Planetarium and the Boeing Dreamliner.

(Debra) Garland, TX

ooooooooh, kwan, cool "thankfuls"!

Here is a quote from the Thought for the Day thread on the CA Forum:

"He is my other eyes that can see above the clouds; my other ears that hear above the winds. He is the part of me that can reach out into the sea. He has told me a thousand times over that I am his reason for being; by the way he rests against my leg; by the way he thumps his tail at my smallest smile; by the way he shows his hurt when I leave without taking him. (I think it makes him sick with worry when he is not along to care for me.) When I am wrong, he is delighted to forgive. When I am angry, he clowns to make me smile. When I am happy, he is joy unbounded. When I am a fool, he ignores it. . Without him, I am only another man. With him, I am all-powerful. He is loyalty itself. He has taught me the meaning of devotion. With him, I know a secret comfort and a private peace. His head on my knee can heal my human hurts. His presence by my side is protection against my fears of dark and unknown things. He has promised to wait for me... whenever... wherever - in case I need him. And I expect I will - as I always have. He is my dog."
- Gene Hill

Thankful for those loving 4 legged critters who love us to bits in hopes we will return it to them.

My gosh, Debra, thankful you are all OK. Those kind of sandwiches are often hard to walk away from.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Ooooh, Debra, I'm glad everybody is OK.

I am thankful for iTunes!

Augusta, GA(Zone 8a)

I loved the Toght of the day, thank you. Today I am thankful for the good rain, and that I finally finished my big project in my back yard. Now I have a 25 feet long trellis, hopefully the Jasmin will climb and make a nice fence. I am also glad that I was able to see my Gkids last weekend and that they are doing well.

Midland City, AL

Debra, I am thankful you and your sister are okay. How did the vehicle fare?
I too am grateful for the weekend's slow, gentle rain.
Love that about dogs. My wife's old dog can't keep up with DW any longer so she has decided to leave that job to a younger dog. She isn't ready to completely retire yet, however. Now, she has decided I need looking after. She can still keep up with me. :-) Jim

Ozone, AR(Zone 6a)

Jim, Am so glad you've been adopted. You sure he did'nt just decide that you just plain needed him now? LOL
I've been adopted by 2 of DD,s cats. One more i can handle but not 2. She has 7 cats and i think 2 of them decided that was too many. I had 3 cats and thats all i wanted but decide i could take 1 more after she moved in, but there is noway i can take anymore. I think DD is going to lock the one up for awhile.
Our rural water co-op had
their pump go out so we're out of running water till Tuesday.
The National Guard has brought up tanks of water that we can fill containers from. So i am very thankful for water right now. Amazing what one can take for granted till it's gone.
Vickie

No Central, AZ(Zone 7b)

Yes indeed, we are all so used to opening the tap and having all that water run out, even if we have to be conservative. When folks are on city water and there is a drought, they typically have reduction goals to meet. We are on a well, which is great (unless the power goes out and the pump can't work), but when there is a drought, you just never know if one day nothing will come up.... As far as the power outage-no water thing, we do want to get a generator, preferably solar, to minimally run the pump.

Thankful today that we will be able to put the horses back into their corrals (they are let out during rain that causes big puddles in their corrals) as we have VERY sunny weather forecast for this week up to maybe 90! Thankful that I can then put out some veggie plants. Doing them all in pots this year and pots or ground the horses would trample or eat them!!!

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Healthy horses at least (eating your veggies)?

(Debra) Garland, TX

The back is probably just the bumper. This is the front. Soon as she felt the impact from the Explorer in the rear, she steered to the left toward the grassy median, so her right front clipped just the left rear of the Hyundai in front, instead of hitting straight on. Adjuster is coming tomorrow to look at it.

Thankful that is all the damage there was.

Thankful for the helping heart of the (little) 6 year old of the little family staying in our RV temporarily. Today we heard the sound of the wheelbarrow and there was little Fernando going around and picking up the horse poo from when they were roaming the property (they went back in the corrals this AM). He then wheeled it the 200+ ft and through the gate to the street where the 'green' trash can is and scooped it from the wheelbarrow into the can. All the while he was followed by his 2 year old sister carrying her purse! His Daddy was always such a big help working on the property and last week Fernando told me he could do what his Dad used to do here. Such a sweetie pie. He likes to have me help him with his homework since his mom does not speak (mostly) English.

(Debra) Garland, TX

me, too, quilty. i have a suspicion that, had she hit the hyundai full on, we'd have some mushed up noses from deployed airbags. :-D

Midland City, AL

Ouch, Debra. I'm so glad you came out with only bumps and bruises.
Hm-m-m, horses eating the garden. There's a cartoon there. I just know there is. When I have time to sit down with my pencils maybe I can find it. Although, it is probably not very funny to HAVE an equine ravaged garden.
Today, I am VERY thankful for PJ's bank card and his permission to shop for clothes. I have a spending limit, of course, and I will stay within it. That is probably what he will be thankful for today. :-)
Taterdog has decided she needs to sleep on the floor on PJs side of the bed to protect him properly. I suppose you can't be too careful. . I guess it is possible a rabid field mouse might break in and attack him. ~Nadine~

(Debra) Garland, TX

Today, I am thankful for ground red pepper; chilly Spring rain; and aspirin. :-)

Ozone, AR(Zone 6a)

I am still thankful for the National Guard. Our rural water well is an experimental deep pump for our deepest well in Arkansas. They found out they could'nt build a new one anytime soon so have raised it up to repair it. They figure it will be Monday before it is fixed.
Am going down to my councilors bldg to take a shower tomorrow.I am thankful they have a shower and i can use it.
I could go outside to take a shower but i hate cold showers.LOL
Maybe sunshine and warmer this weekend.
Vickie

Midland City, AL

Today, I am thankful for small chainsaws, old dogs and young people that can be trusted.
Fernando sounds like a great kid. (Jim)

Ozone, AR(Zone 6a)

I am thankful for young people that can be trusted too. They seem to be far and few inbetween.

(Zone 7a)

Vickie, I didn't know the Nat'l Guard did that. Something new everyday...

I am thankful for friends who let you vent, Jason Statham, near 70º on Thursday here and cute cell phone covers.

Hanceville, AL(Zone 7a)

I am thankful for God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. I am thankful for my family. I am thankful that I can still get up out of bed in the AM and make my own coffee. I am thankful that I can grow my vegetables. And flowers. I am thankful that I have eyes to see all of God's creation and thank Him for what I see. I am thankful that I live where I do instead of in town somewhere where I have to be quiet. I like to sing out loud even if it is off-key.. "Make a joyful noise..." I am thankful that I still have sense enough to figure things out. It gets easier as you get older, living experiences. This could go on and on..... Luciee (:^) this is a moonflower

Welcome luciee, don't think I have seen you post here before. Yes, thankful for God's goodness and graciousness, considering what we are.

Hanceville, AL(Zone 7a)

thank you, guiltygirl. May I be so nosy as to ask what you are guilty of? I am guilty of overeating. This IS my 1st post here. Luciee(:^)

(Debra) Garland, TX

luciee, her user ID starts with a Q, not a G. :-) so she is Quiltygirl.

Hanceville, AL(Zone 7a)

Thank you, Debra, I see that that is a Q. Sorry, Quiltygirl!! (:^) Luciee

(Debra) Garland, TX

luciee, she is a caring, giving person and I feel confident she will accept the apology. :-)

Very glad you chimed in. For me, it is important to remember that small gratitudes can have a large impact in how I feel. That there is always something to be thankful for, even if I just sometimes have to search reallyreally hard to find it. LOL So I try to come every day and list three things for which I am thankful on that day. Been slacking lately with a cold, but time to get back on the train.

Augusta, GA(Zone 8a)

Hello Luciee, this one is for you, for your cheerful aditude and happy personality. Thank you for posting.

today, i am thankful for:

the abundance of floral display already showing itself in my yard

honey nut oat cereal

the talent of david mccallum. from illya kuryakin to dr. donald mallard, he is a fine and fun actor to watch

Hanceville, AL(Zone 7a)

Thank you, Kiseta. I feel like such a grouch most of the time, and this forum gives me pause to think.. Thank you, Debra for your nice remarks. Love to all of you. Luciee (:^) Some of my amaryillis in bloom.

Thumbnail by luciee
(Debra) Garland, TX

being a grouch can be a wonderful thing. one of my two idols is the cartoon character Maxine. LOL... (the other is mae west, but that's another topic. :-D). even on your most grouchy days, if you don't feel like adding anything, hopefully, just reading someone's post here will help you feel better. [hug]

thank you for the photo. my boss gave me an amaryllis bulb in january and i accidentally smushed up the bud not too long after. the pot is in our lobby just growing strappy leaves and looking cute.

Ozone, AR(Zone 6a)

A warm welcome luciee. Looks like you are here for the same reason the rest of us are.A hug from me too. You're Amarylis are beautiful. That is one flower that will not do well for me.
Debra, You've got to love Judge Judy too then. She is the queen of grouches.
David McCullem is a sweety. I just know he is like that in real life too.I love the way Dr Mallard explains everything. Course I love everyone on that show.
I am still thankful for the National Guard. Also for Motels.
Friday DD and i are going into town and split the cost of a motel and take long luxurious showers. Yes we are totally spoiled.
Still thankful for hot chocolate.

Luciee - the Q/G mistake is a common one for me. No big deal, and I am sure I am guilty of something, but I do enjoy quilting. There is a thread on the Trash to Treasures Forum called "How Did You Choose Your User Name" that is fun. It mostly has become a general discussion, but we still get new folks explaining their online name.

Today I am thankful for cool mornings. I am open the house up and harvest the cool before it gets to 90 today. Hopefully we won't need AC then.

I am thankful the horses are tucked away in their corrals and the unlikelyhood they will need to be let out of flooded corrals since our rainy season is essentially over.

I am thankful to be able to take my veggie starts out of hiding (from the horses) in the garage and out into the sun.

No Central, AZ(Zone 7b)

Oh, oh, and I am thankful for Debra and her thankfulness and for her starting this thread.

THank you Debra for the kind words 'in my defense', lol.

(Debra) Garland, TX

you are welcome, quilty. :-)

vickie, i am afraid i don't like her. i think she's just mean and the others take right after her. :-(

today, i am thankful for,

My Da was a huge fan of Judge Judy. He brought grouchiness into the realm of an artform. :-) I miss him.
Welcome Luciee. Now, I'm no longer the new kid on the block. Just the kid on the block. I'm in the extreme SE corner of the state. What part of the state is Hainesville in?
I wish I were guilty of being quilty. :-) I have two quilts, but I've never made one. It seems like they would take a lot of forethought and planning ahead. Not traits I am well known for. I'm destined to be only a quilt collector I suspect. One of my quilts seems more like a work of abstract art than a utilitarian thing. I've hung it like a painting. The other one I use withing an inch of its life. It sort of replaced my teddy bear. :-)
I am thankful today for the cartoon idea I got from Quilty. I'll post it here when I'm finished.
I am thankful the big pine next to the house has been felled and that no one was hurt and nothing was damaged. ~Nadine~

Hanceville, AL(Zone 7a)

Sansai87, Hanceville is in Cullman County, I65 runs through the middle of it. This morning I am thankful for all the positive people I have met of this forum. Thanks to everyone for all the welcomes. Today is April Fool's Day, so far no jokes have been played on us. Everybody watch out!! Luciee (:^)

No Central, AZ(Zone 7b)

Luciee, pretty funny about no jokes yet - your post said 3:56 AM (my time or yours?).

Sansai - I enjoy making Wall Quilts for the artistic value. They are also easier to manipulate and I enjoy attempting to be creative. For warmth, I have only completed one bed size quilt, but have done a bunch of lap, baby or cuddle quilts. Here is a link to my Mobile Me Gallery (some photo albums from my iPhoto library) if you are interested. If you click on the 'my gallery' button on the upper left, it shows other albums available.

Today I am thankful for photo organization available through software.
