I have a 5ftX30ft vegetable garden at the back of the house that is suffering from a severe case of neglect. The spot is ideal in terms of sunlight, drainage and soil, not to mention it blends in with the landscaping, so I would like to renovate it rather than start over elsewhere... but the spot is SO nice the weeds have had a party in there and I don't think they will go quietly! It's still covered in snow now, but I had a look last summer and it was thick and full to chest height with not only dandelions and brambles of all kinds but quackgrass and bull thistles, which from my experience in the rest of the garden are about impossible to kill. Is there some easy way to kill off the invaders and plant vegetables instead, or is my garden plot doomed to be a thistle bed from now on? Thanks!
Any suggestions on renovating a veggie garden?
Weeds never go quietly or forever. I'd work the ground up, mulch heavily and just keep at it.
Maybe this will help you out with your weed problems, I have never tried it but I have only read great things about Lasagna Gardening. Hope it helps you some
