Sharon, I keep forgetting to ask you if you ever go in to the Pawn Shop in LV to see what they have in there? We watch it every Monday night. It is one of the most popular shows on. I am sure it is a lot put on for the TV, but it is still kind of fun.
Plant Propagation part XXIX based on my own experience
When my sister and her husband Ted were here for our sister-in-law's memorial we drove past it. Ted wanted to go in but there was a line. Then when we got close, we could see there was a Disneyland line inside. Do you understand what I mean. IE, once inside the line twisted around inside. I have heard the wait is hours. I would imagine it is just rigged for the show but I have no idea.
No probably not. The Welfare people pawn all their stuff at the end of the month and when they get their checks they buy it back at the 1st. I think all pawn shops are like that at certain times of the month and probably worse there in Vegas. I love that show too. That and American Pickers.
Here it is. Finally was able, I think, to get it on here. If anyone is interested in parts and instructions I will try to get them to you. This is 4 feet but it would be easy to make them any width you wanted. Also they showed one they had tall legs on. Now, that would be the way I would do it and put chains and hooks to raise it as the plants grow, before planting out.
Good afternoon:
nope its not carell tunnel as she had that once before. this is in the neck. I had been able to get it under controll with massage but its gotten worse. she got some shots in the muscles that were tied up to see if that might help. I am afraid a disc has given way and its gonna be surgury but I am still praying its not that bad. I talked to her a little bit ago and she was not doing good so we will see.
I got outside today and it was a marvelous day in the upper 60's and its suposed to be that all week. I have been relableing my Dl crosses. I have to do it every year because the lables give out from the sun and the weather. I also managed to see more tips on the hostas starting to break out.
I am afraid spring has sprung and march is coming in like a lamb. I am just afraid of the lion at the end of the month.
Good looking light stand. what did you plant??? sounds like your daughter needs a dose of outside to get motivated. i believe its therapudic (yes I know spelling) ....
have a great day
Dave
Hi - I'm still in Chula Vista. No rain since the first night I was here which is great. I've been sleeping a lot and shopping some. Did laundry this morning and now I have to rearrange my van to make room for more stuff. I've read a couple of books and I went to an all-you-can-eat buffet where they have sushi for lunch. I'm stuffed.
Lots of things are blooming here. The weather is very nice. Chilly at night which is good for sleeping though I miss my dogs cuddling with me.
Got a few bulbs and seeds at the 99cent store this morning. Also a lot of brown rice for the dogs.
Must check out Goodwill and then go look at TV's.
hugs, katie
Yep, looks mighty familiar. Maybe like Sharon says, it will be gone by 2012. Was -29 this morning at 4 oclock. Warmed up to about 20, but with the wind blowing probably the equivalent of 0 at 3oclock this afternoon even with the sun out.. Food is my only answer. Natural gas is getting really expensive, and we only set the thermostat to 72. Sometimes it feels pretty cold ev en at that!!!!! Who says we need VD?????????????
Lee you are so funny, 72 is not high enough when it is that cold. Do you have a fireplace? My sister has one with an insert in it and boy it keeps her house really warm and cozy. When it is that cold wood is the only thing that keeps the house warm.
But you are right. If you are not hungry then you will be warm. I found that with my cat. When I give her the fancy food, she is warm enough to sit in front of the big windows. If I don't, she comes and sits with me with a blanket on her. Food is the answer. It is fuel.
We have a mobile home from the 84 so the windows are not dual pane, which sucks. When it is cold it gets cold, also the air coming up from under the house, so we got a pellet stove and it makes it comfortable and we have an oil electric heater we use in our bedroom, because we are on propane and we would have to sell me on the street to pay for the heat if we used that with any regularity.
I want instuctions Jeanette, I love that. It is PVC ha?
Ok Dawn, I have to go to Spokane tomorrow and it will be all day. So I won't be able to do it until Thursday. PLEASE remind me in case I forget. But, I will be sure to do it because I think it is a real cool idea but you have to show us pictures of it when you get it done.
Yes, it is PVC. Very cheap. The 24 inchers in the garden catalogs are a hundred dollars!! Not PVC. I bought 2 of them at an estate sale for $5 each but I would bet this PVC one would be a lot better.
I absolutely will send them to you and I would make them myself except I already have my setup for seeds.
BTW Lee, I say you need VD and you ask JB. Bet she says you do too. LOL
Hi Everyone,
Our temperatures went from 70's Monday -60's to 36 this morning. Burk put my plumies and orchid cacti back in the greenhouse for me and I wanted to be outside so badly. The trees are blooming and the hydrangeas are all leafing out. I even noticed some growth in a pot on my porch where some morning glory seeds are coming up. I know the ground hog said spring would come early, but I have never seen it quite this early. Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining!
Well, about 2 more weeks and I should be able to walk around like a real human. We will see. This has been torturous, I am just thrilled that it didn't happen in April or May.
Hope you all are warm and happy.
Morning Ladies and of course Dave,
The weather here is sunny, in the 30's and the winds are very strong and cold. It is difficult not to get sick when you have no clue how to dress. By noon it is to be in the 50s they think and then tonight it is to drop to the 20s. How in He** do we know what to wear. Good old layers.
I am beginning to feel like a "stripper". Every few minutes I take another layer off. LOL
Monday and Tuesday were days from hell here. Monday was the birthday of the manager of the Horse Park and they planned a party. Lynn(my daughter) and the President were to to pick up the cake about noon and the gang was to get together to celebrate for a short lunch and party. About 11:30 Lynn talked to the Pres. and he said he would be there soon. When the President did not show up , since he is a Veterinarian and could have had an emergency sometimes he is late We had no word from him and he was not answering his cell. About 1:00 my daughter called his office to see if they knew where he was and his assistant said they had taken him to the hospital, he was feeling funny. By 2 P.M. he was DEAD.He was only 74. Died suddenly in the hospital. He always said he wanted to go fast. He was a man of his word.
Yesterday was lost, he was extremely active in the Horse Industry and people were calling, stopping in and it was a mess. Lynn finally came home abut 10 P.M. looking like a truck ran over her. They had called an emergency meeting of the Trustees of the Horse Park and had to elect a new President so we could continue our schedule of shows and sign checks. Today is a little better. We are trying to get back to as normal as possible. His viewing and funeral are Friday and Sat. and in lieu of flowers the memorials will go to the Horse Park which means I have to write all the thank you notes and keep the records of the money that comes, in, etc. So, I will be in and out when I can to say Hi.
I had a Dmail from someone called gardenladydori from Loma Linda, CA. Is she a friend of any of you? She just signed up today on DG and wants me to send her Aimee cuttings as a trade (which the trade is she will pay the postage). Not sure I am going to start that. I only trade with people on this list if then. Aimee cuttings do not do well if not kept really wet until planted. If she is a friend of anyone on this list, I will send her a rooted starter if she can not afford to pay for it. The postage will be about $7.00 or more bareroot to Calif. This is not the time to cut anyhow. But, if she is a friend of any of yours I will be happy to send her something. Please let me know. Gotta go. JB
JB I am so sorry for the loss. that was sudden and that is the correct way to go if its your time.
The name sounds familiar but not if you know what I mean. so I will have to say not one of my regulars.
Dave
I do not know her. How do they find us. I had a total stranger d-mail me earlier and wanted some Black Bamboo. I did not even answer because I had no clue who they were. Then I had another from someone wanting worms. I did answer her and told her where I purchased mine. I do not mind if it is my idea and like you, my friends, I will give you anything, but I would like to think it is my idea. I have two friends that sent plants to DG members for postage and did not receive the postage. Some trades did not get the trade from the other end.
Sorry for the loss of your friend and business associate. But that is the way I want to go. I do not what to linger for months on death's door.
Went to Esther Mae's home last night for a 6 course Italian dinner. She is my friend with Parkinson. Saw another friend I had not seen for ages Her husband had a stroke 4 years ago and she spends all of her time taking care of him. They have been married over 50 years and this is the first time she has been out except for doctor appointments or church in over a year. Her husband was one of my clients. Poor Esther Mae put on a wonderful dinner, she is a great cook, but she wore herself out.
My workers are here and double digging the holding (hoarding) bed. My SUV is in the driveway because to many plants are in the garage. I have a manicure and pedicure today so I probably will not get a lot done. Also SUV has 15 64 quart bags of Moisture Control Potting Mix in the back. I went in there yesterday to buy a couple of bags and the manager told me to wait 5 minutes because they were marking it down for the weekend. Marked down from $13.97 to $9.99. So it does not go bad so now I have enough for the year. It is a good thing I have a very large 3 car garage.
Dave, Vern used to get horrible neck pain. He had muscles, right at the top of his shoulder that were just tied so tight, they felt like hard lumps. I would just gently grab the muscle with my fingers and slowly the muscle would break into smaller knots. Then I would take a smaller knot and do the same thing. If you do that to hard, it really hurts. I would do it while he was sleeping and I could not go to sleep. It took several weeks but the neck pain went away as soon as I got rid of the muscle knots. I figured this out when I had a physical therapist do it to me. I had one of those Ah Ha moments. Saves me a trip to the physical therapist.
Occasionally, I get one and I just grab the muscle myself and hold it until it breaks. You can fill it break loose. Just an idea for Kim. Vern thought I was basically nuts until the pain went away. But he thinks I am nuts the majority of the time.
Well the workers just found another mass of roots from the neighbors trees in the holding garden.
Have two more lines they are replacing on the irrigation system, then everything will be back in order. I am going this afternoon to rob a bank to pay the bill.
Good luck Jnette on your trip to Spokane and your TV purchase. They have some out now that even make your coffee.
I will be back this evening but you will all be in bed sleeping. Later friends.
Sharon, are you sending me some black bamboo? What am I sending you in return? Mind is not doing too well today. Just got back from town and making a HP deposit and drawing out some fun money for me (out of my account of course) LOL.
I do not know what to do about this girl, like Dave, I thought the name was familiar but if she is not one of this group I do not want to start to trade. I have no room for most of the things people want to trade and that is just a waste of their time and mine. With you guys, you understand, and you know I adore all plants but unless I can grow them properly, I will not take them just to say I have them.
Yahoo, speaking of sales, I got three cans of cat food for $2. today at the Market. Great deal. They also had the Child development kids bagging today and they are so adorable. Kids with disabilities are just so special. I miss the kids at the Rehab Center where I used to work, but you really have to be a special person to work hand in hand or even live with those kids. Patience is not one of my virtues, good thing I was only doing the fund raising and the public relations. LOL.
Be back later. Have some designs to work on. I wish I got paid for all these designs I do. LOL Freeloader Family Members..............I love them or I would not do it and they appreciate not having to go to the florist and spending a fortune.
Talk later if time permits. JB
Wow, I am so glad I just checked the Tradelist. I was listed on there for five different gardenias. To trade, no less. How in bloody He** that happened I do not know. I have never knowingly listed anything on the tradelist. 'That is obviously why that poor soul dmailed me.
If you do not want to be listed on the tradelist you had better check it out. I feel better knowing how she found me. Later. JB
Yes JB, I am sending you Black Bamboo and tumbling tumble weeds.
Did you pick up my black pussy willow is budding. That is just so exciting for me when I see buds on anything I plan on keeping.
I have to get off her and get in gear. Sharon.
JB I know what you mean... I have a few things listed on the have for trade list and sometimes it works great and other times you get burned. I know one of the 1st trades I did I got burned really bad. adozen jap maple seedlings and a big box of other stuff they just kept saying they were going to get it out to me. Finally I quit and just put it in the ole memory banks.
I have also had some great trades where they sent me a ton of stuff and I felt bad because of the smallness of my items to trade. the other end said they did not care they were glad to get the plants.
Sharon I do that on kims muscles. I work them out and also find trigger points to help it release. thats how I managed to keep kim from surgury for so long. that is an interesting technique. I just massage the direction the muscle goes and it loosens. kind of a gentle pulling technique.. I am betting you have been like myself way to many massage therapist and they all had a different technique. it took me like 10 different therapist untill I found an old hippie who used several techniques to help. he was the only one to make it better.
I just finished my hosta inventory so I can list them on ebay I have 215 hostas to move out. now to find the dumb cd of my pics. I bought a second one last year as I couldn't find the 1st one and needed the pics to list with. I will be doing a 5 for 25 includes postage... I did really well with it last year. maybe again this year. I list 2 different packages hosta of the year collection and a dwarf collection.
I don't know where I am going to put all the stuff I have coming in.
I have like 5 flats of both pink and blue phlox that has rooted out and started growing. They went through the winter with no protection except for being pot to pot and tray to tray eliminating spaces for cold spots. Its going to be really beautifull when they come into bloom. I am suprised they have yet to do so.
Hello everyone!
JB ~ I am sorry for your loss, but as others have already said - that is definitely the way to go - quickly...no lolling about making everyone (including yourself) more miserable in the long run. I do not know this trader of yours. If you find out how you got on the trade lists and how to remove yourself, please let us all know. Then we all can check.
Sharon ~ You have been SO busy! I hope you are taking a little time for yourself. Still, I know sometimes the sense of accomplishment is more nourishing than self-indulgence. Good for you!
Dave ~ I kinda' got lost back there, reading so many posts....was that pain yours or Kim's? I just couldn't figure it out. Hopefully JB's suggestion will be of some use. It sounds like it will take a while before it works tho'. Pain is never fun and it seems never ending when it is with you. It is as it has been with you forever and it will be that way forever. Our prayers are with you.
Katie ~ I am happy that the weather is cooperating with you. You sound like you are definitely having an adventure. Keep safe. It's almost like springtime there, so enjoy it.
We are all WAITING FOR SPRING!
~ Evelyn
Evelyn: The pain was Kims and is still an issue but seems to have been better last nght. well at least in the back. she has some pills to help with the inflamation and light pain pills.
Ok everyone should be aware of the trade lists. if you are not please check out your preferences.
open the my info tab at the top just under the first row of tabs. click on my info and go down the list there you will see how many things you have on your trade list.
the trade lists are broken into 2 lists things you have to trade and things you want to trade for.
My list is so huge that it would take me several days to deleat it all so I am just leaving it as it is for now.
evelyn how is it my weather is nicer than yours and I am 2 zones colder than you???? just a thought to ponder .....
I am seeing signsof growth on almost everything in the garden. The hot lava echinacea has really spread out to quite a few plantlets. I still thing winter has one more blast for us and I dont want it to be in april as it looks like its going to be.
Have a great day everyone
Dave
new thread tomorrow I promise
I found the trade list under the "tool" tab. If you have anything listed, you can just click on it and then when the list comes up you can edit or delete it. Otherwise it will say you have 0 items listed and 0 items wanted.
ATTENTION : Another bummer. Got an order from sapphiblue of Winter Haven Fla on Feb. 24th. Just one plant. But, the note said ship immediately because it was 80 deg in Fla. Well, I did not ship immediately I dmailed her and told her I will be glad to cancel the order and if I do not hear from her I will bill her when the order can be shipped. I never heard another word.
So, yesterday I billed her. She said she forgot to get back to me and bought another wonderful plant, etc. and then she said she only saw me and the Jasmine on the trade list and wondered what I wanted to trade for the Jasmine. That was not true because the order came thru on the MarketPlace as a regular purchase. Anyhow, she canceled the order. Of course I do not mind she canceled, but not being truthful troubles me, so i looked up to see how long she has been a member. She had signed on the day she ordered the Jasmine.
Another one of the come in, order and go out on the first day. I am beginning to think DG MarketPlace should only sell to people who are paid members. It would save us some time and trouble. Oh well, what a way to start the season. LOL JB
I've only gotten seeds from a DG friend in Hawaii and I've sent her books as she doesn't have room for more plants. I also sent some Mexican license plates to someone who collects them. He didn't offer to pay postage but it was his birthday so I let it go. Remember you can leave feedback both good and bad for people here. I haven't done that here but I have left negative feedback on eBay for a couple of unscrupulous sellers. That can be very effective.
I've been shopping and organizing the van. Will se my doctor in the morning and maybe leave soon after. I am so grateful to have Tony taking care of things at home so I can focus on what needs doing here and not worry about the dogs or plants.
A couple more things to pick up then read and sleep.
hugs, katie
I planted my palm seeds today. O.K. God, it is now up to you. I am praying you will let at least one sprout. JB
JB I am also very sorry about your friend, but that is the way to go maybe not for family, but for self it is the only way.
I don't know your trader either, not familiar at all, but then, I only participate on this forum. Sometimes I lurk elsewhere, but don't post. Did when I first started a couple of years ago, but I enjoy all of you so much, I just don't anymore.
It is about 20 degrees out, but the darn wind makes it so much colder. No we have no other heat, other than the gas, well really, it is hot water baseboard heated with gas. Goes to each room, and the bedrooms seem to be warmer than anywhere else. Back to work, have 2 more rugs to make. ttyal, Lee
Thank you all for your kind comments and wishes. I appreciate it. I know my daughter is grieving and I can do nothing about that. I am doing all I can just by being there for her when she needs me.
I will be back on the freezing mark again tomorrow and hating every minute of it. When I read your posts Lee I feel like I am in a heat wave. God Bless you girl.
Hope you are all well and home safe from your trip, Jen and Katie, Hugs. JB
JB did know you could grow palms in NJ? Surprise surprise. My gosh.
My black bamboo is doing well. I planted it in my holding garden in a pot with my horse tail and it is doing fine through the cold. Yeah! I don't know where I will put it eventually but it got established in there just fine.
Boy you guys have been chatty today. I don't know when JB has been so wordy. Must be 'cause I wasn't on here.
Why don't you tell that person you only sell on MP and it was a mistake being on the trade list. You probably thought it was me undercover trying to get Aimee didn't you. LOL Never thought of that way, Good one.
Yes we did go down to Spokane early. The roads were really bad but Bob's appointment was at 8:45 and it took 2 hours to get there. We did spend a lot of money, contributing to the economy, and bought a big TV. Now have to get it hooked up. Our only choices are Direct TV and DISH. I have Direct TV now, do any of you have any experience with Dish?
Lee, why don't you cut the heat to the bedrooms and then the rest of the house would be warmer. My bathroom is so warm, I love it. Have said I am going to move my chair, the tv and my book in there. Maybe even a little refrigerator too. Then charge people to use it like they are going to on airplanes. LOL can you believe that? They have you captive and then charge you to use the toilet!!
First----the baseboard heat is a continuous line of hot water through out the house in one big length--not like regular baseboard that you can shut down.
Second--we have Dish and love it. Have been on about a year. They have a lot of available channels, and I usually can watch what ever I am in the mood for. They also have several plans available. We got free installation with 2 DVR recorders and one just plain. for 3 rooms in the house. I think we are in the plan just under the top one. Hope this helps.
What TV did you end up buying. Ours is a Pioneer 52" in the living room,46" in the Rec room, and just have an older regular one in the sewing room.
Later all, Lee
You don't have registers you can close? I cannot stand a warm bedroom so I close the registers in them. Then close the doors. That way the heat goes to the rest of the house and the bedrooms are nice and cold. I would think you have registers in the ducts.
I have heard good and bad about Dish, mainly bad about their service, but nothing bad about Direct TV. We got a 47 inch Vizio and a Sony Blue Ray player. I don't think, hope, we don't wish we had gotten a larger one. However Costco has a 90 day return policy.
Well JB, when your palm seeds germinate, this is what they will look like. A wide piece of grass. Photo below.
The holding bed is totally tore up. I asked that they made sure they got all the roots out for the Black Bamboo and they dug a little deeper and ran into tree roots again from my neighbor's trees. Pine tree this time. The pines are great and provide great shade for the house. And then they discovered the irrigation line was blocked and we were moving the valve anyway so that is no big deal.
I got my manicure and pedicure done today. Stopped and got a 16 oz U-Swirl yogurt and came home. For some strange reason, if I do not get up and go to work at the garden first thing in the morning, I just waste the whole day. I did plant a few dug up plants today into pots but that is all I got accomplished. But tomorrow is suppose to be 70 and I am going to be busy all day. Friday I meet the landscape managers at 6am to go to the big greenhouses in the middle of the valley about 50 miles headed south. Will not be back until around 2pm.
I will take a photo tomorrow of my destroyed back landscape. BUT, when this is all done, my irrigation will work the way it is designed to do.
Jnette, we have Direct TV. Have had it since it first came out. We pay to much but Vern is a sports nut and has every sports package you can imagine. The only thing we do not have is NBA.
Have a great evening everyone.
Photo of palm seedling. Surrounded by baby tears which is a ground cover that loves the shade.
Cross Post Jnette. We have a 52" but you should be very happy with 47". Vizio has busted into the market with great TVs. Costco has put them on the map.
We keep our bedroom cold. But we have the advantage of having three different units for three different areas of the house. We keep the house at 68 during the winter and about 72 during the summer. But we have ceiling fans that keep us cool, especially in the bedroom during the summer.
Photo is tiny pine tree I dug up from holding bed. Anyone want this little tree. It will grow to be 40' tall and 20' wide.
Well Sharon, you can do that if you put the soil in containers or raised beds. But, if you don't and try to fix your whole yard, the stuff you put in there to amend your soil just disappears. That is what happens to mine in all this sand. It is like you never put any in there. If I put it in containers like your raised beds I could do something with it too.
What about the soil where you have had your people digging up. What is going to be there? Do you fill it in and then what is on the top? Is it a walkway, or????
Well, I have gotta go to bed. We got up with the chickens this morning and I see Bob is sitting there with his eyes closed watching TV.
Good grief, guess I should stay off of here. Nobody posting today? Yesterday when I wasn't on there was all kinds of activity.
Just looked and I guess it didn't start until around 9 o'clock yesterday. Nobody is awake yet I guess.
Dave, looks like you need to start a new one. We are up to almost 300.
edited to add: Yes, JB, I saw it was 6:30, but that was 9:30 our time. I know you are up with the chickens.

Morning Jen, Sorry to be so late to day hello today but Theresa, my cleaning girl was here and we were scrubbing bird cages, etc. We started about 8 a.m. and just finished and we only have two more to go. When you tear them down and scrub every inch of them it takes so much time, then the floor needs to be steamed and cleaned so here I am, almost noon and I have a million other things to do.
I never got to read half the posts. Has anyone seen the one from the administration about starting something new.. the posts from some of the people regarding Facebook are interesting.
Thanks for the picture of the palm. We will see, Theresa almost threw my baggie away with the seeds in it. I have it under a large plant near the heat in the dining area and of course she was doing her cleaning and thank God I caught her. She was wondering what the heck it was. LOL
The weather turned so cold today it is too cold to do anything outside, yet, the GH is over 100 deg. again and both heaters are off. But, I am afraid to open the windows because the wind chill is below freezing. How can this be?????????/
I must stop now because Jen gets upset if I talk too much. She is not equipped to digest too much at one time, so be brief for her sake. Ya Ya ya ya ya ya.....gottcha!
good mornin campers.....
well it looks like I am going to stay inside today and try to clean up some of my piles everywhere. Kim and I are pilers and every so often we go through and process the piles. mostly mail and stuff around the computer.
we have a 47" lcd in the bedroom and an old 36" in the livingroom. we set this up back when we had the house full of "guests". our thought was not to make the living room too comfortable as it was about the time we wanted to clean out the house. We hope to get a 60" led for the living room in the next year or so.
what speed is the processor? 60hzt, 80 htz or 120 hzt?
I hope to get the rest of the nursey cleaned up next week. with the hostas all moved out of the way I can go down the main walkway and get all the leaves out and then I am going to use the blower to try and clean up the fallen leaves out of the pots. the only problem I see is if the blower removes the tags from the pots.
Ok who wants double orange daylilies??? I am hopefull that I will be able to get them out the first couple of weeks in april. Please chime in even if the answer is no. the pic is of the flower. I am trying to do away with plants I will not be selling so that its mostly production.
Dave
