I believe the photo of Omoshiro on Gardenimports is misleading. The bloom is lighter than that.
Nothing about them in Garden Watchdog.
I found Omoshiro at Heronswood.
If you buy from any canadian wedsite( gardenimports.com ) there is a charge extra for some sort of Hort certificate to export plants.
OOOPS Just checked Heronswood they dont have it this year. Google photo must be old catalogue

Omoshiro, part 2: the waiting
I buy from Palatines every year they are in Canada, with no certificate. That I'm aware of.
I agree the colors are darker than the real flower. I like the dark colors better to tell the truth.
Dawn is a nice clematis also, but just not Omoshiro.
I must be mistaken about the certificate.
I paid an extra $30.00 to get lily bulbs from Canada.
I thought it applied tom all plant life.
Here is what the site said about shipping to the U.S.
American customers please note:
MINIMUM ORDER is $100 in merchandise. American orders pay 35% of merchandise value for shipping & handling. Gardenimport prepares export documents, phytosanitary inspection required by The U.S. Department of Agriculture and handles U.S. Customs clearance. For this we charge $25.00 if your order contains BULBS or PLANTS. Your order will be charged in CDN dollars. You save approximately 30% due to the lower value of the Canadian Dollar. Your order will be shipped via PRIORITY POST.
I wonder why Palatines doesn't have to do that.
Maybe Palatines works it into shipping charges.
Odds are the Palantines has a phyto sanitary ceritifcate for their entire operation. They probably do more business with the US than gardenimports.com - I would also think that at some point, NAFTA would apply and that duties and taxes would be reduced...
APHIS (Animal Plant Health Inspection Service) is the organization that has control over importation of plants to the USA.
From one of the APHIS sites:
Plant Import and Export Information
APHIS serves to facilitate safe trade, monitor the movement of risk material, protect against the introduction of pests, regulate the import and export of plants, and help exporters meet the entry requirements of other countries.
More information is here:
http://www.fs.fed.us/psw/publications/documents/psw_gtr214/psw_gtr214_141-145_britton.pdf
Palatines has two listed prices, one for Canada, one for USA, as the USA price is higher, probably worked into price.
Hi everyone, I am geting ready with my garden for the new clematis. I had 4 6 feet pols put in cement last week, tomorow I will strech the wire and make a 25 ' trellis. I hope everything will work out fine. Pirl I wish you speede recovery. I think my Christmas cactus had waited to send you a greeting. This week it is in bloom. The pastor at the church gave it to me last year.
kiseta, missed reading you!
I agree with Dem - I missed you, too, Etelka.
Wow! You don't fool around, do you? Having 25' to block your view will be wonderful and you'll have it filled with beauty, I'm sure.
That's a beautiful Christmas Cactus and the pastor gave it to the perfect person.
Here, I was thinking I probobly made a ful of my self pouring my hart out like I did, but sometime I just feel like talking to somebody. I don't know about your children, I have a son a A personality, when I call himl, seams like he is talking to two people and fixing his car or something, then the kids want something, I just cant get to talk to him anymore. My daughter-in-law keep saying that I need to move closer, she is borderline by polar, I can see my self more in Novi Sad then to go up to Nort Carolina in the middle of they bussy life. Here in my house tonight I am planting my seeds, and hopfully tomorow I will stretch out the wire that I bought. 36" x 25feet, one on top of each other. I found a shade loving vine, yellow dicentra, kind a like a bleeding heart but it is yellow and it is evergreen. Also I will plant my Gypsi clematis which is purple, on the most sunniest spot. In the front I will plant my red, white and blue clematis, then I still have two more Sunset and Niobe to place in the front. My climbing hydrengia is growing crazy, I have to get a trellis for it. I a flower pot I planted 3 canna lilies Cleopatra, it is shorter then regular, I hope it will sprout soon.
On the way from store, today I was listening to Rod Strewart singing "If you like my body, and you think I m sexy" I don't know what happened, but I turnd it to the max, if the rapers can , this old lady is having a good time. I think I miss dancing more then I miss s-e-x. I think. But I'm not sure.
We always welcome your posts, Etelka, and I love the Rod Stewart episode. He really does appeal to us older women (even me at almost 70).
Would your son be receptive to getting a call from you now and then after the kids are asleep? All adult children (sounds funny) seem to have busy lives and getting ten minutes to talk, and get their full attention, can be difficult.
Your plans for the garden sound so good. You'll have to take lots of photos.
Keep on posting!
Etelka - come back and tell us more stories as we wait for clematis to bloom.
I think my Brushwood clems should be here in a week, maybe two. I really should start thinking about where they're going in the garden.
That's the rough part. Glad some of us order first and think about where they'll go just before they arrive, or later, or much later.
Is there any other way? :)
I've heard rumors...
^_^
When I ordered my first clems, I had no clue where to put them. I had to created places for them. Now, I know I'm not the only one. LOL
That is how I do it too! Order first and the figure out where to plant....
Isn't it fun being inventive about planting spots?
There are times it can be maddening but we always find room for them.
I have finnaly got away from work, This morning at 7 am I was planting little seedlings. I must have been very lonly in the winter, I planted so many seeds I can keep up with it. Replanting my salvias transylvanica, penstemon, gomphrena fireworks. I went to the Habitat store and bought me 2 old windows and will make some hot bed on the back deck. I hope I have all the room for it. Last weekend I took my son and his wife a 7 feet tall Japanies Maple for their anniversery, 14, I guess they will make it. The maple tree is beautiful, it is Glowing Ember, very healthy looking. My son, the hairsplitter, could not decide where to plant it. He is one of those people uses tape mesure when planting bushess, it has to be right. I told him if he lett it die, I will be mad at him, draging it up 500 ml.
Hope he got the Japanese maple planted. At 7' tall it was a specimen right from the start for him and what a lovely anniversary gift!
One basil seed has germinated and I'm waiting on the others. Jack will be doing his thing with seeds next week, downstairs and under lights.
What a thoughtful gift for your son, Kiseta. Glowing Embers is a beautiful JM.
This afternoon I refused to hug my chair, I would just waist my time sleeping. Who wants to sleep when it is 76 ' and is so many things I can do. I planted my calediums in pots, also some Christmus ferns, I will replant them in the garden when time comes. Next is crocosmia bulbs, I need somethings red, most of my folower are pink or blue. Last night I put in small cups some of my agastaches, some orange ones. Also some Rudabeckias cherokee sunsets, they are realy looking good. I think the rest of my seeds, mostly zinnias and petunias I will plant outside, they say our day of the last frost is 19 April, right after the Masters turnament, I will have all the time I need.I noticed my James tree is bluming, it is still small 6 years old, but it looks strong. Next to it is also a pink James tree, it always bloomes late.
Pirl, if you see my picture, you will see a iron trellis behind the dogwood tree. I have 2 torn bushess, Pyrocanta (?) can I put one of my clematis there, it is sunny till 2 pm, would it be bad to put it with a torny bush???
I'd name that Japanese maple after your wonderful husband, Etelka. He deserves the honor.
I wouldn't put a clematis by or with any thorny bushes like Pyracantha. You'll get scratched when you try and prune them. I LOVE that trellis - it looks like a huge picture frame - ideal for a garden!
Glad to hear you aren't hugging your chair when you can have fun outside!
pirl, that trellis used to hold the church sign I work in The church was built 1798.. They put in a new sign and wanted to trow it to the trash. I brought it home and set it in concrete, so it is a strong trellis. My thorn bush is only one year old, so I am hoping it will cover the trellis. I finished the 6 x 25 feet trellis in the back yard, it looks good, my son probobly would find it funny looking. It was hard to hold the nail and the hammer and strech the wire at the same time. I already planted 4 large bushes of Confederate Jasmine, and have room for one clematis. Today it rained nice, it was a nice slow rain, it will spruce up the garden. Have 2 more days off, so I will tackle the climbing hydrengea trellis, I have to paint the treated wood, I got 2 of 2 x 2 x 8, also some wire, and will pour concrete around it so it will hold the bush, it needs a strong trellis. I should be going to church in the morning, but I think I am looking for a new church, out of the 4 services, they do not have one for the old folks that like traditional hymns. I am to old to listen to drums and trumpets in the church, to me it is a place for rest and worship, not showbusiness. Sorry, I am off the subject again.
I'd prefer more typical church music myself, Etelka. You're not out of place or off subject here on a thread that is just about waiting.
You're doing great with all your garden work.
I love the iron trellis!
Love the iron work Kiseta, would proudly put it in my yard.
Thats what May looks like here. Nice preview.
So gorgeous. I love the ironwork as well and I too would have it in my yard in a heartbeat.
Love the green and JoAnn is right - looks like May.
Good thing you are so handy and can set that trellis in concrete. It looks wonderful! Be sure to show us what it looks like later this summer.
Etelka could stand in the center, behind the trellis, and have someone take her photo - that would be neat!
Arlene - I agree.....
It would scare the deer away, if we had any. A few houses down the road a guy has some chickens and goats. I am glad I don't live next door. A sad news, I think my 100 year old water oak has lots of limbs without leaves, I think it is on the way out. I can imagine my place without it, but it could be dengerous with lots of dead limbs, it's been falling on my roof for years, but they where small enough that it did not do any damage. All the trees in the neighborhood are about the same age, and some are fallen over. It is sad, but the tree people can give it a hair cut, and save it for a little longer.
Just give Bartlett Tree Experts a call for an inspection to be sure you won't be killed by a falling limb.
Type in Atlanta, GA on this link and you'll find them:

This whole morning I have been replanting my Agastache rupestris, all the seeds have sprouted twice, now I have probobly 50 plus plants. I guess I can save them for the south Georgia roundup, it is very pritty and orange color. Smells good to. I got hooked on Agastache after I bought 5 last year named Accapullco, it is similar, it is orange shrimp color.
