Pretty, Louise. All clem's seem better with wood fences or something wooden in the background. You follow a good rule, Louise, and it's the one my dad always quoted.
At least the plants can be moved around so it isn't permanent catastrophe and we do learn from our errors.
Omoshiro, part 2: the waiting
In that case, Arlene, I "should" have learned a lot :)
Love the drops of water, Louise.
We all "should" have learned and I'll bet most of us have. I had our guy, Neri, moving hydrangeas that never should have been planted to block other views. Live and learn.
I have a few clematis and was wondering if anyone has had success with planting the seed heads?
Is layering better? My Mom, and sisters would love to have a start. Please let me know.
What is the best clematis in your gardens?
I would like to add a few more. Anyone have vines to trade?
Thanks,
Teresa
Seeds are a major project from all I've read, Teresa. Definitely go with layering! I have no spares to trade. Very soon you should be able to buy the more common ones like Jackmanii, Nelly Moser, Belle of Woking at Walmart or Home Depot for $5.00. They're fine clem's but not unusual. If you don't have them they're worth buying and caring for (pot them up for the first year or more) and they help accent the beautiful and unusual ones.
Our best grower is Jackmanii but only because it's planted against the back of a compost pile and it gets all the benefits of the compost seeping down.
Prettiest is...Omoshiro - as if you had to guess! LOL
Ken Dobson is a stunner, I always have peple stopping and asking what it is. Also avante garde, I have that planted with a pink climber, is awesome.
Uh oh! I'm off to Brushwood right now.
l looked out to my back yard and it was 20 red robins drinking out of my dogs water bowl. Is that mean Spring is close???
I'd guess the birds are right for Georgia. They will take their time getting back here.
Definitely means they're thirsty.....
My sister told me today, they had robins going through with the starlings and the cedar waxwings. She is in Chicago and her weather is quite a bit harsher than mine. I haven't seen any yet.
Maybe I haven't noticed because my head was buried in the Home Depot dahlia section today. I'll put out bird seed in the morning and see who arrives for breakfast.
Did anyone see the cover of the new Wayside catalog? Those clems are beautiful. Won't order from them though, more a wish list or guide.
Didn't see it but I bought two collections of clematis from Wayside in '92 and '93 and they all survived and did quite well. Now I wouldn't consider buying anything from them especially with good vendors out there who truly back their purchases.
Cover is clem "Blue Angel", stunning.
Very pretty
Yes, it's really nice. I'm sure you'll love it. I like those clems with the downward facing blooms.
It will go on an obelisk with lilies nearby.
Can't wait to see pic. Hurry up spring!!!!
JoAnn -
Sounds gorgeous. Can't wait to see pictures. What color lilies will you have with your clem?
Yellows Lemon Ice,Royal Sunset,Loretto.
Dark geranium Midnite reiter, chartruse hostas,Mister Watson
Just sprayed for deer. Now maybe the hydrangeas and heucheras can be at ease.
Deer have chewed anything with "over winter" leaves.
Tramped thru snow but I got the job done.
You really are amazing!
Yes I know.
I sprayed everything I could.
Snow is still on much of the garden but if there was anything to spray I did.
Lily stalks, forthysia bushes etc. anything the solution would stick to.
Bare ground of course. These things hold the odor and thats what I want.
The deer smell the area and avoid it.I even sprayed emerging rocks.
I went to Brushwood's site to order the Omoshiro and they are now out-of-stock. Shouldn't have waited. Drat! I can wait...I can wait...I can wait...Ohmmmmmmmmm...
I want to put it with Henryii. Also want to order Carol Lim or one like it.
Rats!
I actually said something else but I can't print it here. Heh!
I bet we could guess at what you may have said but we could all get banned. LOL
How bad do you want it????

The more you buy the cheaper it is. Who knows it might be a large well rooted plant and worth the money.

Klehms has them.....don't delay!! :) Diamond, I think Gardenimport is out of Canada. I called them last fall but was told they wouldn't ship to the US
ooops...I just checked, Omo is still available but backordered until July at Klehms.
Ouch
Khlems has nice plants. It's been awhile, but it seems to me that the last time I ordered from them, their plants were every bit as nice and the same size as Brushwood's clematis.
I agree Carolyn. I really like Klehm's and have had much success with their plants. The only downside is their shipping prices. If you're only ordering one or two plants, the shipping is very high, it becomes more reasonable as the quantity of plants increases.
Ohmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... I will wait. I guess I'll have to. Silver Star Vinery doesn't have it, either.
I e-mailed Silver Star and she said it would be available there next year.
