Let's continue chatting about Omoshiro, clematis in general and just pass the time as we wait for the clem's to arrive.
Coming from here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1145391
These were the very first Omoshiro blossoms here in 2009, dedicated to Sue and her husband - love in bloom.
Omoshiro, part 2: the waiting
I hope I made up for it, after the funeral, I planted 2 dogwood trees, close enough to each other that they will end up hugging each other. .One is white and the other is pink dogwood. This year they will bloom well if I can judge it the way the are buding. I will plant my 2 clematis in the back part shade, I found a young man to build me 3 x 8' trellis and on one I will run the two clematis where it gets most sun about 4 hours. I have Sunset, Gipsy and Niobe, which ones are most shade tolerant??? I probobly should get one white one to break up the colors.
I love Dogwood. I planted mine together too so I would have them in a nice clump. I have white, red and pink and I love the red berries in the fall. The red berries seem to draw the cardinals.
Hurray ! Got my tracking # today and Omoshiro should be arriving here Friday.
I'm so happy for you! Take photos if your camera cooperates so we can all be jealous.
I'm thinking of planting my new Omo with my Cinderella Cl, we shall see. I still have a couple months to plan and dithering. LOL.
I have 2 more months until the clematis arrive. I realized when I ordered from Brushwood that their nursery is not that far from where I live. Wonder if they'd allow a visit when Spring arrives?

I'm curious as to how big the plants will be and if they'll have buds or blooms on the when they arrive. Time will tell.
I'll take pictures and post them when they get here.
JD - can't wait.
Most people know where they will plant their new clematises - I haven't a clue. I buy what I love and then find places for them. Somehow it always works out for the best.
Arlene - that is how I do it too......
I do love clems...... they have a beauty that is all their own.
When we first started buying clem's our neighbors, a gyn-ob and a pediatrician, told us we can't grow clematises because they tried and the plants just don't grow here. We asked where they bought them...Michigan Bulb Co. Well, no wonder they didn't grow! The wife was shocked when ours were blooming.
Awww, thanks for that dedication Arlene!
JD, leave it to you to put another spin on the initials I used, of course, I didn't even think of it! LOL
Neither did I, Sue.
I went to the store to look for some trellis for my back yard. Has anybody used the unpanted treated wooden trellis 4 x 8. I kind of wont to stay away from white, but the brown plastic looks tacky.
It takes spray paint really well. Use the type for plastic, and Customize it!
Try visiting a lumber yard for more interesting choices.
They take a lot of spray paint...a lot. Wear a mask if you do it yourself and never work in a breeze unless you want your hair, skin and clothes to be the same color. Walmart has a wide variety of colors at reasonable prices.
How about if I leave it as is, without painting, it is treated??
Ask if it's treated. Also ask about the wood - what kind of wood is it? Then you could leave it as it is. Within three years it should be covered with clematises anyhow.
I have found the plastic latice to be very long lasting but it has wide slats so clems need to be tied to it and woven through it. I use black coated wire for many of my clems. I have framed it with 2x2's, covered sections of fence with it and in this pic made a 14 foot high circular tower with it. I have Princess Diana, Ragoochi and Betty Corning growing up this tower.

I have decided that I will let my helper dig the holes and put the 8 feet posts in and I will just make like windowframes and use somekind of wires. The 8 x 4 trellis will not fit in my minivan, so that is out. I have seen this sample of the trellis in a book about building a window and on the inside use hooks and conect them with wire. it looked like I could do it in a weekend. Thank you for your replies. I am of to the "coal mine" today I have to cut 40 lb of beef, peel 50 potatoes and make banana pudding for the crowd. But thank God, I have a job, Etelka
Bon Appetit!
Etelka - your attitude is so refreshing about work. I used to complain to myself about my job. It seems that the problems always hit at the same time and I could not answer the phone, but I would have 2 and 3 messages left for me whilst I was on the phone. It finally dawned on me, if I did not have 'problems', I would not have a job! ^_^
Dem -
is that Belle of Woking? So very pretty.
Yes, should have labeled it. LOL
Nope, I'm relatively new to forum, picture is breathtaking, I am always happy to see pics. Nothing like the images of spring/summer to warm a gardeners heart!
That must be the best photo ever of Belle of Woking, dem. Mine is closer to Belle of Boring.
Sure! Then Carolyn posts the best Proteus I've ever seen! Just not my day. My Proteus is such a sickly color - like my Aunt Eva's old mauve walls - terrible. I love the combo of the peony and the Proteus, Carolyn.
Keep posting photos of clem's so spring will seem closer to being here instead of 32 more days.
Arlene
I don't think anything ever came out of your garden looking like 'old mauve walls'. Everything you have posted has always been gorgeous.
Last year Proteus did not do so well. This is from 2009. She is planted with Miss Bateman and Violet Charm. I got lucky with the peony, it is almost the same color. When I put the clems in, it was long after the peonies had been there and I was not sure what color peony was where.
I cannot wait until spring either. Another thing that I am looking forward to is the fragrance of spring. I love the smell just before it rains and I love the smells of the flowers, such as the peonies..... I am also missing the sounds of Spring - the birds calling each other in the morning is the best sound...
I've had my share of the uglies and disposed of them. One neighbor takes anything and everything.
That trio should have been lovely, Carolyn. I wonder why some clem's just don't perform well some years. You certainly ended up with quite a harmonious match even if you didn't plan it that way.
I did find one decent photo of Proteus but in the meantime here's old mauve walls:
(admittedly better than my memory of it)
Arlene
they are beautiful!
Dem - I am so glad you are joining us. Lovely photo of the seed head.
Thanks. I wish I liked it.
Lovely photo, Dem. The lush clematises look so good with all the seed heads nodding in the breeze.
Carolyn22, I am one of the few people that loves her job. Some day I can't believe it that I am getting pay for my hobby. I wish you all came for dinner, it was good and we had pleanty. One old man said, you the only one that cam make creamed potatoes just like my mother did . Maybe because I peeled some potatoes , instead of getting them out of box. Carolyn, I took your second picture with the peonies and put it on my background, I used to grow some of peonies in Pennsylvania, in the early eghties. I lived close to King of Prussia, if you know where that is, great shopping.
When I look at some post and the subject of them, I admit I go of the subject. Most of the time I falow the rules in life, but I bet on my deatbed, I won't be wishing, Oh God, if I only could followd more rulles, I will be thanking God that I took time to talk to some nice people , that they took time to listen to me and maybe helped me with my situation. I am very gratefull. Goodnight Arlene, I remember the song.
Etelka
You are more than welcome to the photo. DH and I were very fortunate when we moved into this house. DH's parents brought us many peonies, roses and lilacs that were my DH"s grandmothers. The one rose was found growing on my DH's great, great grandmother's grave. I don't know the names of these flowers, but I am sure they are heirlooms of some type.
Yes, I know where King of Prussia is. I heard from others of the great shopping there. I have not been down that way myself in quite a few years.
I think that was, "Goodnight, Irene" - I'll see you in my dreams, right? Anyhow, I can make it Goodnight, Arlene if I choose to do so.
I have no problem at all with going off topic though I know several people who will unwatch the thread if it happens. That's fine - they can start their own threads. While we wait for the clematis I find great enjoyment about learning things from others and Etelka has been a very bright spot this February. Thank you!
Construction of the new laundry room is finally coming to an end but tomorrow the plumber will be here all day long so Jack and I are escaping early to select paint for two of the bathrooms and then we're going out for breakfast. Every room has a mess from someplace else and it's annoying me.
