We're introducing something new today!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

We are launching something new on DG and we wanted to let you know about it, even though it may not affect your daily activity here. You will see some Facebook “Like” buttons on these areas of DG:

• PlantFiles
• BugFiles
• BirdFiles
• PlantScout
• Garden Watchdog
• Freeze and Frost Dates search
• Go Gardening

If you’re not familiar with the “Like” buttons, here’s how they work. If you have a Facebook account, you can click on a “like” button and your Facebook friends will see that you like this particular page. They can click on the link that appears on your wall and visit DG to see the features you like. Back here on Dave’s Garden, when you visit one of the pages with a “like” button, you’ll all be able to see how many others “like” that page, too.

We are adding these buttons to increase DG’s visibility and make it easy for visitors to see the areas of the site that are recommended by a friend.

If you’re a Facebook user, there’s a privacy setting for your wall that we want to make you aware of. When you log into Facebook and navigate to “Account” > “Privacy Settings” > “Your status, photos, and posts”, you can modify who gets to see posts made to your Facebook Wall, including your “Likes”. You can make your wall visible to all, a select group, or only yourself.

Later on we’ll also be adding a Facebook “Like” button to DG’s home page (the one you would see if you were logged out.) That will make it easy to connect to the DG page on Facebook here: http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Daves-Garden/60793307544

For those who are not on Facebook, no worries. The “like” buttons are small and won’t get in your way. We’re not encouraging anyone to join Facebook. Our goal is to make it easy for those of us who use Dave’s Garden and Facebook to share our favorite DG features with our Facebook family and friends.

Hey all we are rolling this out as I type - should be working on the site by the end of today! (-:

Updated to say, these buttons are live.

Could you please give us a link to a page with one of the " like'' buttons so we can see what you mean.
For we cyber clutzes. *blush*
Thankyou

Thankyou ^_^
great idea.

Coool...I figured you were up to something when I couldn't access the site for a short time late this afternoon, lol! Great idea!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Hmmm, well I'm not sure we were up to anything yesterday afternoon - and we haven't received any other reports of an outage :-)

Northern, NJ(Zone 6b)

I also was not able to access DG yesterday afternoon.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

That's odd. Anybody else? (It worked fine for me, and I promise I don't have any special connections.)

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Yep, did it to me, too. However, it was only for a minute or so at a time. It did it about 3 or 4 times. I would get a page with a message like "SQL" (? or something like that) followed by "host failed" or something similar. I just assumed it was my ISP but tried it on some other sites I had open and they were fine.

All in all though it was only happening (to me) for a period of probably 10 minutes or less, and I'm leaning toward "less". It's not a big deal to me since everything has been working perfectly since.

Ditto ~ I just said ~ oh well here we go again !

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

I had the problem connecting on the 16th, too. I even took a screen shot of the error page (below) - but then forgot to send it to you. For me it occurred at 7:40PM and only lasted a short time.

Here is the screen shot of the 'info' (a Mac thing) for that file showing that it originated 2-16-11 at 7:40PM.

Yep, that's the page I got. I wonder what it means.

But, haven't seen it since so all is well.

Happy Day, Folks...the sun is shining once again in February (finally!)

Yep, that's the same error message I got, but no biggie, it only happened for a few minutes, and I haven't seen it since, either.

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

Same here, short duration, no repeat since, not a big problem. I gathered the information, screen shot, time, etc planning to email everything to admin via the "Contact Us" link just for their benefit in gathering data, but later forgot about it until I ran across this link.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Well, hopefully it as a temporary and isolated glitch :-)

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Sorry that I haven't mastered the 'screen shot' yet but was doing a forums search and repeatedly received this message when I tried to access a particular PlantFiles thread.

Quoting:

Database error: Invalid SQL: select tn_image, imageid from pdb_images where pid = and showorder > 0 order by showorder limit 1
MySQL Error: 1064 (You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'and showorder > 0 order by showorder limit 1' at line 1)
Session halted.

Is it just me? Or???

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Did this happen today? And can you tell me which PF thread you were trying to access?

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, my apologies. I know better but a head cold causes stuffy thinking!

It happened just prior to my posting here.

It was on this forums search '
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/search.php?q=senecio+seed+germination

It was this thread by Weezingreens
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/374212/?hl=senecio+seed+germination

and it still does it this a.m. so it is not a temporary glitch. Is it me?

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

I get the same thing when clicking your second link, too, Podster.

Shoe (who saw you were looking for "senecio seed germination"; I have senecio confusa seed I saved, hope you find the info soon!)

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Good ~ glad to know its' not a quirk in my computer... being as how I'm fairly computer illiterate here. LOL

Mesa Gardens has lots of succulent seed germination info but not specific. We may have to experiment and "write the book".
Thanks... pod

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

I just now tried those links from podster's post, and the first one worked fine, but the second one still has the 'session halted' error message.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Terry, I am an avid Facebook member and I love the DG Site. I will click on all your buttons you can be sure.

BTW, when you have time, could I talk to you about someone having a problem finding my plant listings? I do not know what to tell her. I have so few things listed and I am up and running as far as I know, but could you give me the quickest way for someone to see what I have listed and I will forward it to her. Thanks so much.

Keep up the good work. If you want me to link something to my FB page just let me know how to do it and it will be done. JB

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

JBerger ~ if I may, when you (or any of us) click on your name, it will show your DG Marketplace products for sale. when clicked on, this is what you will see. http://davesgarden.com/products/market/user.php?q=JBerger How easy is that?

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Thank you Podster, I know you can get there from JBerger, I thought maybe there was another way. When you click on my name my personal page comes up and if you go to the bottom you can click on the items for sale, or whatever . Clicking on JBerger brings me to my personal page only.

I may be stupid but where is the link you mentioned? I do not see that on my page. At the top of the screen the link is different than what you said. Now I am confused. LOL

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

This is really off the subject of the new FB links, but here goes :-)

Quote from podster :

The problem appears to be isolated to a now non-existent thread. If you find others like this, please start a new thread in this forum, or use the "Contact Us" link to let us know.

If you look here:
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/threads.php?user=Weezingreens&limit=pdb&submit=submit&offset=400 you can see that weezingreens submitted two PF photos of Senecio, which generated two separate threads in the PF photo forum.

However, when you go here to see all the photos of that plant: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/296166/ you'll see there's only one. Which means one image has been deleted for some reason (possibly Weezingreens requested we remove it, or it was a duplicate, etc.)

The remaining photo's thread works fine. It means for some reason the older PF photo thread is still in the cache rather than being deleted when the photo was deleted. I'll let the tech team know.

JBerger, your questions are really probably better dealt with one-on-one at our helpdesk; would you mind contacting us here? http://davesgarden.com/helpdesk/forums/

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I do not know if someone has already mentioned this but I just went to about 6 separate plant listings in PFs and on each one at the top it said "Annie's Annuals and 310 others like this." Seems odd that on such different plant listings that Annie's Annuals and exactly 310 different people liked each one.
Thanks

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Kell, it means Annies +310 people have said they like PF and it trickles down to all the pages.

We do need to get the "like" buttons to work separately for each PF listing, but that may be more difficult than it sounds :-)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Maybe it would be better to say "Annie's Annuals and 310 others like PlantFiles." The way it is now, it looks like it is fixed. LOL

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Great point - I'll bring it up and see what we can do to make it clearer (or have only the "likes" show up on the main pages for now.)
