We are launching something new on DG and we wanted to let you know about it, even though it may not affect your daily activity here. You will see some Facebook “Like” buttons on these areas of DG:

• PlantFiles
• BugFiles
• BirdFiles
• PlantScout
• Garden Watchdog
• Freeze and Frost Dates search
• Go Gardening

If you’re not familiar with the “Like” buttons, here’s how they work. If you have a Facebook account, you can click on a “like” button and your Facebook friends will see that you like this particular page. They can click on the link that appears on your wall and visit DG to see the features you like. Back here on Dave’s Garden, when you visit one of the pages with a “like” button, you’ll all be able to see how many others “like” that page, too.

We are adding these buttons to increase DG’s visibility and make it easy for visitors to see the areas of the site that are recommended by a friend.

If you’re a Facebook user, there’s a privacy setting for your wall that we want to make you aware of. When you log into Facebook and navigate to “Account” > “Privacy Settings” > “Your status, photos, and posts”, you can modify who gets to see posts made to your Facebook Wall, including your “Likes”. You can make your wall visible to all, a select group, or only yourself.

Later on we’ll also be adding a Facebook “Like” button to DG’s home page (the one you would see if you were logged out.) That will make it easy to connect to the DG page on Facebook here: http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Daves-Garden/60793307544

For those who are not on Facebook, no worries. The “like” buttons are small and won’t get in your way. We’re not encouraging anyone to join Facebook. Our goal is to make it easy for those of us who use Dave’s Garden and Facebook to share our favorite DG features with our Facebook family and friends.
