Silver Dollar Eucalyptus Seeds Aborted

Harlingen, TX

Has anyone grown silver dollar eucalyptus from seed? I used about 20 seeds and only four ever sprouted (they do have a pretty low germination rate already) they grew about half an inch long in a week and a half then never grew any taller. About four days passed and then two of them were gone, totally wilted and yesterday the other two just wilted as well.

I guess I could always order a rooted one but I feel like its taunting me haha, this is the second time I have tried but failed. I'm the only one with a green thumb in the family and I am majoring in Plant Physiology so you would think a few seeds would be easy but here I am...

Any help would be appreciated! Temperature, lighting, water? On a side note, I also have some passion flower seeds. Any germination tips for those as well would also be greatly appreciated.

My guess is the ones that did come up probably died from "damping off" which is a common fungal infection that seedlings get when you're keeping things a little too wet. Things being a little too wet could have made the other seeds rot before they had a chance to germinate, although there are other things that could have gone wrong there too.

Thanks for your help. I will just have to try again. The weather has been crazy the last two weeks. I live in deep south Texas and we had half an inch of ice down here for a few days so I couldn't put them outside. One of the few days I was able to get them some good sun, the pots looked a little dry. I know that you can't let eucalyptus dry out totally but I am away during most days so I can't be there misting them 5 times a day which is why I have to use a little more water lol

Sun could have been a problem too--if you started the seeds indoors, they need to be adjusted very gradually to higher light levels outdoors. I would wait until the seedlings are a little bit bigger before you even try putting them outside at all, and then give them just a tiny bit of sun the first day and gradually increase the amount of sun.
