Birds from Queensland.

I really wonder what purpose the wattles serve ?
Some of them have scars on them and are bleeding ?

Resin to the rescue please !

Hi Ginger - don't know, but I'd guess, from fighting between birds (territorial disputes, etc.). Possibly also from feeding in thorny plants, but I'd think that's unlikely.

This is one of their main diets.

And just for something different.
The wattles on this Bird are much more round ?

Brilliant shots, Ginger. I love the second to last one in particular.

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Really crisp shots Ginger. And great close up.

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Thanks once again for your kind words Margaret and Burn.
This is the last Picture from this group of Wattle Birds.
I have got a mother in a nest with one young. [cute]
But not sure exactly where they are.
All my pictures are on 2 external terabyte hard drives.
There are 80,000 Pictures on each ext. drive.

During our very recent Floods.
The Birds became hungrier and less scared of us people.

I knew I had been accepted into this male Satin Bowerbirds territory when he waved hello! to me.
I was waiting for a ‘high five’ next time I saw him but his friendly mood soon passed. :o(

Probably saw you didn't have any bits of bright blue plastic for him ;-)

The females are very pretty!

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

The male is quite curious when he is in my territory.
But when I was trying to Photograph him in his Bower.
He was completely different.

I agree with Pelle on the eyes, so nice with his blue coat.
Cute Resin .:))

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Yes Pell,
She is quite pretty.

And Resin,
You are probably right.
I now only bring white capped milk with me.

Wow the female has gorgeous eyes too. I also like the males beak.

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Wow pretty female.

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

I don’t know how she does this.
But she will stand completely still and slightly quiver/shake her wings only.
The whole rest of her is perfectly in focus ?
I only wish I could play the sound she makes during this ritual.

If I can find a site with bird sounds on it, I will post it here.

The young SBB won’t pick food up off the ground.
They will only take food from mum’s mouth/beak.

Dress in blue, then he won't want you to leave!

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

I have been around for a long, long time Resin.
But you know I have never thought of that ploy.
I will definitely try it on my next visit to his Bower.

This Picture was taken from the back of his Bower.
He will enter his Bower 100% of the time from this end.
But the female will land on the other side and check out all his trinkets then enter the Bower from that side.
There is no room inside the Bower for any hanky panky.

I took this Picture last year near 'The Cold Goast'.
There is a plastic knife and fork in this Birds Bower area.
Also a few plastic drinking straws.

Brilliant photos, Ginger. They're the best shots I've ever seen of the female.

Because I had built the hide the afternoon before.
I did not notice a branch had fallen during the night spoiling my perfect view.
But I stayed put and took these Pictures anyway.
Unfortunately I was leaving that day and didn’t get any other Pictures.

In my next Picture.
Here he was totally besotted by my two Blue gas bottles.
So your blue shirt method may work.

Hi Pell,
I think it’s about time you and your OH got on a Quantas Plane [-John Travolta] and came to visit our great Country.
If it was good enough for Oprah Winfrey.
Then I am sure it’s good enough for you. ;o)
I’ll look after you in S.E. Queensland.
