Birds from Queensland.

PERTH, Australia

Marna, at times you have to keep doors closed to stop them coming into the house. Willie Wagtails, Galahs, Corellas, Pee Wees, Butcherbirds, Doves and especially Magpies. A friend of mine was at their holiday home over the weekend and a Nankeen Night Heron came and landed on the patio dining table and she was able to feed it right there. She had never seen it before this weekend. When she tried to feed it on the ground, two others turned up, so she reverted to the table.

So are the Aussie birds friendly, or just crazy daredevils!

hee.

PERTH, Australia

No the daredevils all live in New Zealand.

I will answer Marnas question first.
Here, where I live, most birds don’t migrate. [Exception is Spangled Drongo]
They live their whole life here.
So our Birds get to know us all year round.
And I live on 11 acres of old Rainforest land.
We also don’t get annoying City Children who only want to scare and annoy them.
So our Birds get totally calm and confident around us.
This Magpie walks into my Studio to let me know its time for me to come out and feed them.
How can you not love these ‘Gods Critters’ ?

I always wonder which Bird to add next.
I will add all the Kookaburra Pictures since Pell mentioned it. ;-)

The Painting on the last two Posts was based on this Photograph. ;-)
The Kookaburra on the bottom was turned 180 deg. because you can’t have a subject looking out of a Painting.

You are right about the Flooding Margaret.
But it’s amazing how quickly the water goes away.
This Picture was taken out of My Studio Window yesterday afternoon.
Still a little water, but during the Flood peak, 60% of the paddocks seen outside this window was under water.

Nice studio, ginger, with a beautiful outlook. Your works look to be very diverse. What particularly caught my eye is the glass of vino on the corner of the table.

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Lovely work on your paintings Ginger, I love all the Kookaburra.

Now you know why "I Live Where I Live".
The view is exactly why I built a full length window there.

Re Vino: Happy hour starts here around 4 pm. ;o))

While walking around checking the fences, I spotted this cute little Bird/Chook/Fowl ?
Looks like some kind of Water Fowl. [extremely fast mover]

Oops on my mistake. :-) The Kookaburra is beautiful! It looks like they are quite smart or at least they have intelligent looking eyes.

Your paintings are beautiful Ginger!

Buff-banded Rail Gallirallus philippensis

All that water, Lake Eyre must be filling very nicely, it'll be bird bonanza in the desert (got to look on the bright side!!)

Thanks Resin,
As I think I have said before.
I am not a ‘Birder’ person.
So I don’t have one single Bird book.
I will Photograph them if they come to me.
But after the wild Boar episode.
I will not stalk a Bird again. ;o(

They stand motionless like this till they see something in the grass.

Then they strike.
I have seen them with Frogs and Grass Hoppers even Moths.

This is my local shags. [maybe a Darter ?]
The face of this one looks like one of those Monkeys at Australia Zoo.
The one Steve Irwin "The Crocodile Hunter" started.

You have a great variety coming to your yard! Interesting thread. Were you hurt by the wild Boar?

No Burn only mentally,
As a rule, Plants which is my true passion don’t charge one. ;-)
Fortunately he ran right past within 2 feet of me.
I'm sure he did not know I was there till he was past me. [my good]

Just adding some of the Birds I started earlier.
This is The Peewees.

This Morning there was a bit of a lull in the Birds coming in for their breakfast.
My Studio door was open as usual, but no Magpies.
So I decided to go out and check on the Feeder Table.
Can you imagine my surprise when I saw this Fella in the Bird Bath ?.

I looked it up and found out it is a breeding male in full war paint. [to impress the Girls.] ;-))
The Birds have not return so far after I relocated him.

DID my own detective work today. ;o)

I found out my resident Shag is infact a: Pied Shag.
The Australia Pied Cormorant, Phalacrocorax varius.
It is also known as the Pied Cormorant or Pied Shag.
Older sources may refer to it as the "Yellow-faced Cormorant".

Description:
These birds are also known as shags or yellow-faced cormorants. They are
about 70-75cm in size with an orange face & throat, and characteristic white
front with black wings. They have a specialized membrane that protects their
eyes underwater. The immature birds are browner in colour with duller face
colourings. Cormorants have a hook tipped bill, and small gular sac (throat
pouch).

Oh, isn't that guy pretty!

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

He sure is Marna,

These next 3 Pictures were taken at Granthum on the 10 of January this year. [no one had drowned yet]

A small Creek can Flood really quickly.
But when the water course is 2 kilometres wide and it rises this quickly. [18 minutes]
You know you are in very very deep trouble indeed.
Granthum is less than 100 Kilometres from me. [scary]

Picture # 2.
Granthum is in an area known as the salad bowl of Brisvegas. [Lockyer Vally]

Picture # 3.
You can see the Water Tank floating away.
18 minutes ?
How much of your personal belongings could you gather up in 18 minutes and escape this ‘Wall of Water’ ?
Is it any wonder so many people died ? [said with many tears in my eyes]

Thumbnail by ginger749
Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

The paltry 4 feet of water over my road seems totally irrelevant compared to Granthum.
I lost nothing but 300 meters of fence.
The People of Granthum lost everything.
I have many Pictures of their devastation but I can’t show them now.
Maybe in one years time.

The lizard is gorgeous!

Gosh that flooding is so awful. I cannot imagine what terrible panic must have gripped all the people at that time.

PERTH, Australia

Your images of the flooding in your area are graphic enough, ginger. The scale of the floods over east are incomprehensible - and they continue.

What is that handsome reptile you have there. It's gorgeous
