Leaves turning yellow

belfast, United Kingdom

Hi everyone

I have had my pansy and petunia seeds in the propagator for approx a month now and have noticed that some of the leaves are turning yellow.

I have read different reviews suggesting that this is overwatering/underwatering. Too much light. Not enough nutes.

Has anyone any idea what is doing this?

I have them in propagator and are getting approx 15 hours of light. Artificial light is approx. 8 hours

Thanks

Is it the first seed leaves turning yellow, or the true leaves that came out later? It's perfectly normal for the seed leaves to die off once the plant has true leaves so if that's what is going on then you don't have a problem. But if it's the true leaves turning yellow then it's probably something else. Are you fertilizing the seedlings at all? Most of the seed starting mixes don't have any fertilizer in them so once the seedlings have a few sets of true leaves you will need to give them some dilute fertilizer or else the leaves can turn yellow. On full-grown plants yellowing leaves can be signs of over or under watering, but I haven't found that as much in seedlings--they die much more easily from those problems than full-grown plants so they're generally dead before they would have had time for the leaves to turn yellow. And I doubt if it's too much light--most people don't give their seedlings enough light.

It's the seed leaves.

What sort of fertilizer would you suggest?

The seedlings were planted on the 03 of January.

I have uploaded a pic to let you see what they are like

Thanks for reply
