DAILY BIRD PICS VOL. 378

Lakeview, OH

Do you know how hard it is to capture a shot of the Northern Flicker? He comes here every morning a little after 8 and he only tried twice this morning, the first time I scared him, the second time the darn Starlings did. I think he has given up and gone somewhere else. I thought thea rb wp was hard to get, but he comes more often now. I am thinking of trying to put a piece of board on the back of the suet cake and entice the pileated wp down here, don't know if it will work, but going to give it a try. The Starlings and the squirrels are still around and they pretty well clean things up. Here is Sweetheart giving a Starling what for. He is saying this is MY suet cake, go find your own! My hubby took this one.

I had wondered how the squirrel got on the feeder. Snow underneath is so high, it jumps from the ground which I saw him do this morning. We need 40° temp quickly. ☺

Rntx, sorry I didn't check in sooner. Glad Patti steered you in the right direction.

Patti, congrats! I'm so glad you found it. Your pictures are stunning and clearer than mine. Just love it! Hope it's doing all right in this horrible weather. I bet it wishes it had stayed in Mexico!

Duc, wonderful photos! Really LOVE the two Pine Siskins. Some have been reported just north of me. I would sure like to see some.

Nanny, OUTSTANDING Brown Creeper shot! They are so hard to get.

Pengilly, LOVE that story! I think animals communicate in much more complicated ways that humans do and every once in a while we manage to share their nonverbal cues. I think they understood you!

Everyone, I'm totally impressed by your photos in this awful weather! I just went to get something in the shed and discovered that the plants that I put in the shed froze. Guess the ones under the sheets don't stand a chance! Can't believe they are forecasting 1-3 inches of snow here tonight. I need to move further south!

Thought I'd share a few House Finch photos from yesterday b/c I'm just amazed by their colors. -- The orangy one...

Teddy, you're lucky to see that flicker. I don't get them very often here, mostly in the fall I think.

So, Pelletory is a little under the weather this week (hugs)… MargaretK will be starting the next thread in the morning (her morning that is).

The ice is so thick that I could reach the hook arms on the platform this morning! I usually need to stand on a chair or step stool!! lol

Great shots everyone! This cold weather is about to wear me out. But, I have it a lot better than the poor little birds.

I told you all that I was feeling better, well, going out and trying to take pictures of birds gave me a backset, I thought I was getting over it but obviously not. So no more pics until I get over this flu, great pics everybody. Took this one yesterday, been trying to get a male and female Cardinal together and yesterday was the day.
