DAILY BIRD PICS VOL. 378

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

I don't understand what pleasure shooting that beautiful swan would bring either.

Nice Hawk tho Red!!

Hack & duc...you both have great shots!

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

Ditto. I don't understand how people can enjoy killing beautiful living beings. Just don't get what's sporting about killing. It's so much harder to get a good photo of a bird than to shoot it. That's the sport!

That hawk is amazing Red. Thanks for sharing.

Duc, WOW, don't you ever have a bad photo day? I'm glad all your photos are great. I love seeing them and the great birds you capture so well.

Hack, thank goodness you let those horses loose! Great pics. I didn't want you to miss out on the accolades you so richly deserve!

Here's a Cooper's Hawk that came by and did not want to leave.

A goldfinch. They're floating down from the trees like leaves now. Sometimes I look out and every feeder has finches on it!

Alphy, wonderful start of a new thread -- with a rare 'lifer'! Congrats. I've not had much photo opp. these past few days. Just have one of the Cardinal and finch patiently waiting for me fo fill up the feeder couple days ago. Red, how cool to see the leucistic Redtailed Hawk. Sorry Duc, that you didn't get to see yours while it was in the area. Hack, I have heard that we do get scissor-tail kytes here--the closest I can compared to the Flycatcher, but haven't seen one yet. Boys, if I see one, I may be shaking with excitement and drop the camera. lol.

As why people would shoot at beautiful animals, I can never understand.

I think I saw my first Pine Siskin for the season today, but misplaced my camera, and so no pix. :((

I took this photo of the Whimbrel a few days ago and posted it on the thread (-2) they go so fast. We talked about migration and Resin said they visit him (UK) on their path. I read some more on these birds and got an interesting article I thought to share.

On this article they talk about a 28 year old whimbrel...which I think is incredible. The article comes from Birds & Birding Magazine.

Burd, love the HL beautiful Robin and all, I have camera envy.Great article little

Hackster, I need your expertise, I got lucky to have a male Northern Flicker this morning, but I screwed up the flash. Is there anything you can do to fix it? Hubby got to see the Pileated Woodpecker this morning, he was in the tree across the street, but he could not get a shot. My male rb wp visited us this morning. We have sleet, but not much snow yet, I hope we don't get what they are predicting. Do I go ahead and put him in my lifer list?

teddy, here is the best I could do.

Hack

teddy, as for adding it to your list, some folks would and some folks wouldn't. Me, personally, I don't add a bird if I don't get a photograph of it, but like I said, that's just me. There are lots of birders who don't use cameras, just binoculars - of course, they would add any new bird they saw to their lifer list.

As strange as it may sound, I've only encountered a Blue Bird once, but I didn't have my camera, so it is not on my list, even though I recognized it for what it was when I saw it.

So, it's your call.

I don't like this weather and neither do the birds!

The birds are having a tough time this morning in blizzard conditions. The feeders are full, but the sideways snow makes it difficult to stay on them. I threw some sunflower seeds out on my study steps which are sheltered from the wind. These guys are sitting on my rocking chair out of the brutal wind.

Teddy, I will add a bird if I am able to positively ID it. A photograph is not required. But if I am not 100% sure I don't put it on my list. A pileated is pretty easy...so if it were me I would add it.

Just no mistaking that for any other bird!!

Elphaba, great photo of your hawk and that little wren looks adorable with the surroundings.

Lily, hope you did see that Pine Siskin! Keep the camera handy!!

Hack, love that brown nuthatch!! So happy to see another pic of the pine warbler-beautiful!!

Burd, love that robin pic! All your pictures are beautiful. That horned lark sure is an interesting bird.

Rian, that article is really amazing. Sure is exciting someone actually kept track of it.

Hugger, cute photo of your birds and squirrel.

Yikes, Red, and I'm complaining about our 30 degrees at night. Your finches look adorable, but so cold. It sure was nice of you to throw seed out in a sheltered spot for them.

Nanny, great photo of your pileated!!!

This Dark-eyed Junco looked like it was really enjoying the peanut butter.

Nanny, that first photo of the robin-you forgot to say it was on an icy branch-brrrrrr. Sorry to hear the hawk caught a starling, but that happy side sure must have been exciting! Wow, I have to find one of those.
