One that you've just seen for the first time

It can work . . . until the squirrels become curry junkies and learn to like it ;-)

A lifer is the first time a birdwatcher sees a certain variety of bird. Some you may see only once or twice in a lifetime, of course some you see everyday.

Faster on the trigger, Resin.

Like that flycatcher. I get lots of their cousins here in the summer.

A Bald Eagle from Canton Lake in western OK. Saw two more circling the lake and got a lifer, too. A Barrow's Goldeneye. No pics, too far away.

This female Yellow-bellied Sapsucker is drilling a lot of holes in my young live oak. I enjoy seeing her, but considering applying some wound dressing to the tree. The sapsuckers don't like it.

I love the Flycatcher!

Red, Lovely shots of the Eagles and Sapsucker!

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

Beautiful pics Red! I love that Bald Eagle. Congrats on the lifer too! I had the same dilemma with a sapsucker. My sycamore is covered with rings of holes.

Columbus, GA(Zone 8a)

Elphaba, thanks for the new thread. Can I let my horses go now, lol? And what a way to start - that Lifer Fork-tailed Flycatcher looks sweet. Were you excited?

reddirtretiree - that Bald Eagle was nice. I've never seen a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, thanks for posting it. Congrats of the lifer, too bad it was too far away.

I have few more to share.

Here's a Turkey Vulture that was one of three circling overhead. I had to wait until it cleared the canopy before getting this pic. This was the best I could do.

And here's a male House Finch. I like their color.

My ever present Pine Warbler. I either have 1 or 2 very active ones, or I have a hole lot of them, I'm still trying to figure out which.

And I have lots of Chipping Sparrows.

Right now I have more Goldfinches than I do Cardinals, and that's saying something.

My last one for now, going to get some breakfast, is a Ruby-crowned Kinglet.

Bye,

But before I go, I noticed how grainy (noisy) my vulture pic was so I ran it through Neat Image and got this improved pic.

Congrats to Elphaba & Red for getting new lifers!! That is a great way to start off a new thread!!

From the last thread....Mrs. Ed, so sorry you missde the Snowy Owl but you still did alright! I should have gone out yesterday to look for the Horned Larks but didn't!

Fantastic photos on the last thread and way too many to comment on.

Elphaba, thank you for the wonderful new start. Congratulations on the new lifer-that flycatcher is just awesome with that long tail. Great shots of the meadowlark, horned lark and yellow-legs-wow they'd all be exciting to see.

Red, great shots of the eagle and the sapsucker. Congratulations on the new lifer too!

Hack, I like that sparrow and the pine warbler is so pretty.

Here's one of my House Finches.

Nanny, cute junco!!

The Lesser Goldfinches are enjoying the seed feeders now that they've cleaned out all my dead blooms.

The Red-breasted Nuthatches are not a bit afraid of me.

I'm still seeing a couple orange variant House Finches.

The YB Sapsucker is virtually camping out on my Live Oak tree. Seems to have developed a symbiotic relationship with a little Myrtle's Warbler who likes sap as well.

Several local birders have seen a leucistic RT Hawk for years down near the Canadian River. I've looked and looked for this bird with no success until a week ago. I've seen it twice now, but from a distance. It is an absolutely stunning bird, especially in flight.

This is a crummy photo of a beautiful bird, but you can get the idea.

Nice shots everyone!!

Havent taken any pics today, been on the couch with the flu, hubby has it too, so the birds will get to eat in peace. This storm looks like its gonna be ugly, sleet, snow, ice and blowing and drifting snow. I hope all the little and big birdies find someplace warm to wait it out. Your pics are great, I see hawks when we go to Bellefontaine, but of course no camera! Have a good evening and be safe, this is supposed to start at 7 pm.

Lakeview, OH

I was looking at my monitor for my camera and saw a shadow on the post, so O grabbed my camera and caught this guy on the suet cake.

Red, that leucistic hawk is an awesome sight, even from a distance. We had one here a couple years ago which I didn't get to see, but the photos were beautiful. Unfortunately, it just lasted a short time before something took its life. I'm so glad to hear yours is surviving.

Teddy, cute wp!

Last winter a falconer was trying to trap this hawk, but the local contingent of birdwatchers explained that it was a local icon and too old for his use anyway. She was first seen 6 1/2 years ago.

Why people shoot beautiful birds is beyond me. I've often seen this Mute Swan at Lake Hefner and even have a print on canvas in my study. She was shot twice last week, but is recuperating at WildCareOklahoma in Noble. They have a facebook page with a story if you're on facebook. I'm not, but my wife is.

The swan.

Glad the hawk was backed up by the locals, it needs to be free.

I'm not on facebook either, but I'm so glad to hear the swan is recuperating. I like to believe that sooner or later whoever shot this beauty will pay for that cruelty. Your photo is just superb.
