Is this Aloe Vera barbadensis? When I remove leaves, should I be taking them from the top? It appears taking them from the bottom is ruining the shape of the plant.
Barbadensis or Brand X
I always remove from the bottom, your plant looks like it needs to be staked, it looks nice and healthy to me other than it leaning to one side.

I thought it looked like Aloe saponaria one that grows here in Florida, but I really don't know much about Aloe's and have a difficult time comparing from photo's. There many Aloe listed in Plant Files but here's the listing for Aloe vera (Synonym barbandensis): http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1367/
Thanks. Good to know I'm taking the leaves from the right place. That little stick you may or may not see in the photo was my feeble attempt to stake the plant. I need to find a better stake. Still wondering though whether this is the plant with medicinal properties. I've read that only Aloe Vera barbadensis has those properties. I think my plant is a match to some of those in http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1367/ Thanks.
